Role: Senior EC&I Engineer\n\nLocation: Bolton\n\nSalary: £45-£59k (Depending on Experience)\n\nWe are seeking a skilled EC&I (Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation) Engineer to join our clients team, specialising in the design, installation, and maintenance of advanced automatic door and access systems.\n\nThe successful candidate will work on a wide range of systems, from pedestrian doors to oversized industrial and safety-critical doors used in nuclear, defence, transport, and high-hazard facilities. This role requires technical expertise in electrical, control, and safety systems, along with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance and performance standards.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n * Lead multi-departmental integration to define project scope and support Functional Design Specifications.\n\n * Conduct site assessments to evaluate existing systems and verify modification requirements.\n\n * Design control systems, including wiring schematics, panel assemblies, and cable schedules.\n\n * Analyse and verify Performance Levels (PL) of safety-related parts of control systems using SISTEMA.\n\n * Produce EC&I drawings, documentation, and calculations in compliance with standards.\n\n * Provide technical support to site teams, including fault diagnosis and troubleshooting.\n\n * Review and verify EC&I drawings and documentation produced by other engineers.\n\n * Ensure adherence to electrical and safety regulations and company processes.\n\n * Contribute to Non-Conformance Report (NCR) resolution and raise NCRs when necessary.\n\n * Maintain strong collaboration with internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.\n\n * Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, knowledge transfer, and innovative design solutions.\n\n * Flexibility to work overtime to meet project deadlines as required.\n\nQualifications, Knowledge & Experience:\n\n * Qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND, or equivalent).\n\n * Proven experience with automated doors, access systems, or similar electro-mechanical systems.\n\n * Strong understanding of electrical systems, control circuits, and fault-finding.\n\n * Knowledge of UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and Machinery Directive principles.\n\n * Familiarity with relevant standards (BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS ISO (phone number removed) & 2, BS EN 60204, BS EN 7671).\n\n * Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics.\n\n * Experience with 2D and 3D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD 2D / Inventor 3D).\n\n * Ability to independently design compliant EC&I systems and produce associated documentation.\n\n * Experience generating hand and software-based calculations.\n\n * Understanding of PLC software packages is advantageous.\n\n * Strong focus on quality, output, and team motivation.\n\n * Experience with industrial and powered door systems, including roller shutters, sectional doors, and sliding doors.\n\n * ECS/CSCS card and SC Clearance eligibility.\n\n * Experience with safety-critical systems in nuclear, defence, or heavy industry environments.\n\n * Advanced knowledge of standards such as BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS EN ISO 13849, and BS EN 60204.\n\n * Experience using SISTEMA for PL calculations.\n\n * Understanding of VFDs, safety PLCs, interlock systems, and emergency release mechanisms.\n\n**You must have the full right to work in the UK without the need for sponsorship both now, and in the future
