Outreach Mentor – SEMH School – Lewisham Location – ASAP Start ***Outreach Mentor required to support student who has been permanently excluded from School ***Outreach Mentor required for Lewisham area ***Outreach Mentor required to support student with ASD, SEMH, Anxiety and Challenging Behaviour ***Outreach Mentor must have experience in this field ***Outreach Mentor must have a flexible work ethic and be willing to travel ***Outreach Mentor must have a calm approach and resilient attitude We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Outreach Mentor to work with students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. This Outreach Mentor role is focused on supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), anxiety, and challenging behaviour, helping them re-engage with learning and develop emotional resilience. The ideal Outreach Mentor will provide both emotional and academic support, acting as a mentor, advocate, and consistent source of guidance, ensuring students feel safe, understood, and motivated to succeed. Key Responsibilities – Outreach Mentor • Build trusting relationships with students who have experienced exclusion, trauma, or social challenges., • Provide emotional support, helping students manage anxiety, frustration, and challenging behaviours., • Develop and implement individualised learning plans tailored to each student’s needs and strengths., • Work closely with families, carers, and external agencies to provide a holistic support network., • Monitor students’ progress academically, socially, and emotionally, providing feedback and reporting to relevant staff., • Support students in developing self-regulation strategies, social skills, and coping mechanisms., • Facilitate access to alternative education opportunities, vocational pathways, or reintegration into mainstream education where appropriate., • Promote positive behaviour, resilience, and self-confidence in students. Person Specification – Outreach Mentor • Experience working with children or young people with ASD, anxiety, or challenging behaviour., • Strong understanding of the emotional and educational needs of excluded students., • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage sensitively with students, families, and colleagues., • Patience, resilience, and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly., • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to student welfare., • Experience in mentoring or coaching students with complex needs., • Knowledge of alternative education programs or therapeutic interventions., • Relevant qualifications in education, mentoring, counselling, or SEND support.
