Lift Technician (NVQ Level 4 Qualified) Reports to: Service Manager Location: London & Home Counties Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Salary: Up to £65,000 Benefits: Company Van, 25 Days Annual Leave + birthday off Job Purpose The Lift Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, servicing, repair, fault diagnosis, and testing of passenger, goods, platform, and specialist lift systems. The successful candidate will hold a recognised NVQ Level 4 qualification in Lift Engineering and possess the technical expertise to work independently while ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety, and industry standards. This role requires excellent technical knowledge, strong fault-finding skills, and a commitment to delivering a high standard of customer service while maintaining lift reliability, safety, and performance. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on a variety of lift types and manufacturers. Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and undertake effective repairs. Perform breakdown call-outs and emergency repairs within agreed response times. Conduct lift inspections, testing, commissioning, and adjustments where required. Complete major repairs, component replacements, and modernisation works. Ensure lifts comply with current legislation, British Standards, LOLER requirements, and company procedures. Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation. Complete service reports, risk assessments, and maintenance records accurately using digital or paper-based systems. Liaise professionally with customers, building managers, and site representatives. Advise customers on equipment condition, repair requirements, and improvement opportunities. Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working order. Participate in the on-call rota as required. Support apprentices and junior engineers by providing technical guidance and mentoring. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in service delivery and operational efficiency. Health & Safety Responsibilities Work safely at all times in accordance with company policies and statutory regulations. Carry out dynamic risk assessments before commencing work. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly. Ensure all work complies with the Health and Safety at Work Act, LOLER, PUWER, and relevant British Standards. Maintain safe working practices when working at height, in lift shafts, and confined spaces. Essential Qualifications NVQ Level 4 in Lift Engineering (or equivalent recognised qualification). Full UK Driving Licence. Current CSCS/ECS card (where applicable). Relevant manufacturer training is desirable. Essential Skills & Experience Proven experience servicing and repairing passenger and goods lifts. Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills. Experience working on a range of lift manufacturers and control systems. Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings. Excellent knowledge of lift safety systems and current industry regulations. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good IT skills for completing digital service reports. Excellent organisational and time management skills. Desirable Experience Experience in lift modernisation projects. Testing and commissioning experience. Knowledge of hydraulic, traction, machine-room-less (MRL), and platform lifts. Manufacturer certifications (e.g. Otis, KONE, Schindler, TK Elevator, Stannah, Orona, etc.). Experience mentoring apprentices or junior engineers.
