Associate Mechanical Engineer Vertical Recruitment is working with a leading multidisciplinary consultancy that is looking to appoint a Mechanical Associate to join its Building Environments team in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity to join a close knit, collaborative team working on a varied portfolio of engaging and high profile projects across the UK and internationally. The role offers genuine scope to take ownership of projects, influence design direction and play a key role in the leadership and development of the mechanical team, while continuing to deliver innovative and sustainable building services solutions. The Manchester Building Services team is involved in a wide range of challenging developments, including: • The delivery of a new 5,500 capacity stand at a historic football ground, incorporating hospitality, media and player facilities, • A world class university library and teaching building located at the heart of a major campus, • The first new build on a landmark city centre site, providing 500,000 ft² of high quality commercial office space alongside community facilities as part of a wider regeneration scheme Projects are delivered within a holistic, multidisciplinary environment, with close collaboration across sustainability, façades, lighting and technology teams to push the boundaries of low carbon, high performance building design. You will join the Manchester office as a Mechanical Associate, providing high quality design engineering services across a wide range of projects. While projects are primarily led from Manchester, you will also contribute to international work within the wider portfolio. Key responsibilities will include: • Contributing to the leadership of the mechanical team and taking on a project leadership role where required, • Communicating directly with clients, offering innovative design solutions and managing expectations, • Developing and strengthening relationships with clients, contractors, architects and developers, • Preparing technical and financial proposals for new work, • Managing the workload of engineers and technicians, • Preparing technical specifications and design documentation, • Monitoring the financial performance of projects and managing job and project administration, including resourcing and expenditure, • Undertaking detailed mechanical building services design and calculations using Revit and IES, • Supporting high quality, performance led design with an understanding of embodied and operational carbon, • Embracing new technologies to improve building performance and support net zero carbon targets by 2030, • Ensuring projects are delivered to an excellent standard, within agreed deadlines and budgets, • Actively engaging with colleagues across disciplines, including involvement in internal discussions, events and seminars, • Mentoring and supporting junior team members, with the potential to move into an early line management role We are keen to speak with experienced Mechanical Engineers who can demonstrate: • Extensive mechanical design experience within an MEP consultancy environment, including experience acting as a project leader, • Experience across a diverse range of sectors, ideally including large scale or complex projects, • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships, • Professional registration with a relevant institution such as CIBSE or IMechE, • A solid understanding of other building services disciplines alongside a mechanical specialism, • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, • Broad design knowledge, including experience working to British, US and European codes of practice, • Experience using industry standard analysis software such as Revit and IES, with the ability to quickly learn new tools, • An interest in digital engineering, automation or coding, which would be advantageous What’s on offer • Competitive salary, • 10 percent car allowance, • Discretionary bonus, • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, with flexible holiday arrangements, • Hybrid working options, • Generous pension scheme, life assurance and income protection, • Flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme, dental insurance, optical cover, travel insurance, season ticket loans and corporate discounts, • Enhanced parental leave policies, • A strong commitment to learning and professional development at every career stage, • Paid memberships or subscriptions to two professional bodies, • Comprehensive wellbeing support and employee assistance programme, • Opportunities to contribute to skills sharing and community focused initiatives, • A supportive and inclusive working environment with active mentoring and professional networks, • An international culture offering long term career progression opportunities
