Contracts & Claims Manager Location: Newcastle (Hybrid) Contract Length: 8-month contract with a view to extend Rate: £500–£600 per day (Outside IR35) Sector: Energy / Power / Electrical Infrastructure Spencer Ogden is working with a leading energy organisation to recruit an experienced Contracts & Claims Manager to support a rapidly growing business based in Newcastle. This is a high-impact contract role suited to a strong, hands-on contractor with extensive experience managing contracts and claims across large-scale energy or electrical infrastructure projects. The Role You will work closely with project, commercial, legal, and procurement teams, supporting multiple projects that vary in size and complexity. Teams can range from small project teams (3–5 people) to large matrix teams of 15+. The role offers hybrid working, typically 3 days per week in the Newcastle office and 2 days working from home, with flexibility depending on project needs. There will be occasional travel to site in Ipswich, which can be expensed subject to approval. This is an 8-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, subject to project requirements and performance. Key Responsibilities • Review, interpret, and advise on customer and supplier contracts, • Screen contract documentation and highlight critical commercial and contractual risks, • Develop and implement claims management strategies with Project Managers and Commercial Project Managers, • Identify, evaluate, and manage incoming and outgoing claims (customer and subcontractor), • Prepare, analyse, and manage claims documentation in line with contractual deadlines, • Draft or support drafting of contractual notices, correspondence, and claim submissions, • Support or lead negotiations relating to claims, variations, and contract amendments, • Assist with preparation for disputes, adjudications, or arbitrations, • Draft and review contract variations, deeds of amendment, settlement agreements, and subcontract agreements, • Work closely with legal teams to obtain reviews and approvals, • Advise procurement on commercial and contractual terms for subcontracts, • Evaluate contractual risk exposure and identify opportunities for positive contract outcomes, • Ensure contractual rights and entitlements are protected, • 8+ years’ experience in contractual roles, • 5+ years’ experience in commercial / claims-focused environments, • Extensive experience managing claims and variations, • Strong understanding of EPC contracts, • Background in energy or major electrical infrastructure projects, such as:, • HVDC, • Substations, • Interconnectors, • Transmission & Distribution, • Windfarms, • Power plant construction, • Experience within construction, civil, or engineering industries, • Strong written and verbal communication skills, • Degree-qualified in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Contract Law, or similar, • Legal / Construction Law qualification, • Quantity Surveying background or qualification, • Outside IR35 contract, • 8-month initial term with a view to extend, • Hybrid working with flexibility
