We’re pleased to be working with a well-established, global engineering solutions provider that is continuing to invest heavily in growth across the UK. As part of this expansion, they are looking to appoint a Sales Development Representative to support new business generation and develop a strong pipeline of future opportunities. This role offers a genuine career pathway into a Technical Sales Manager position, making it ideal for someone with phone-based sales or internal commercial experience who wants to move into technical field sales, or for a hands-on professional looking to transition into a commercial role within an engineering-led organisation. The Opportunity You’ll act as the front end of the sales function, identifying, researching, and qualifying new opportunities across growing market sectors. Working closely with owners, engineers, designers, and site contractors, you’ll help specify technical solutions on live and upcoming projects, providing high-quality intelligence and well-qualified meetings for the external sales team. The position has been created specifically to develop internal talent. With structured training, technical exposure, and clear performance milestones, successful candidates can expect to progress into an external technical sales role within approximately two years. Key Responsibilities • Drive new business development across both new and existing customers, • Research, map, and profile target accounts and projects, • Prospect through cold calling, email outreach, referrals, and social selling, • Re-engage dormant accounts and historic targets, • Qualify opportunities and schedule meetings for external field sales colleagues, • Collaborate closely with Marketing, External Sales, and Internal Technical Support teams, • Accurately record all activity and insights within the CRM system, • Follow up inbound leads and enquiries efficiently, • Provide pre-sales technical guidance and solution support, including basic design input where required, • Advise customers and installers on best-practice installation approaches using technical documentation, • Build relationships with engineering and learning managers, organising Lunch & Learn and CPD sessions, • Share market intelligence, forecasting insight, and product feedback with management The client is open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds, provided you can demonstrate drive, commercial curiosity, and the desire to develop a long-term career in technical sales. Preferred experience includes: • Degree-qualified or equivalent industry experience, • Proven success in a phone-based sales or business development role, • Exposure to sectors such as power generation, data centres, rail, water, pharma, or oil & gas, • Knowledge of construction, civil, electrical, mechanical, automation, or control systems, • Experience supporting or working alongside external field sales teams, • Ability to manage complex, long-cycle sales opportunities, • Confidence using industry news, project databases, and professional networks to identify opportunities, • Experience selling premium or value-led technical solutions, • Ability to provide technical or product support to customers, • Resilience when competing against lower-cost alternatives, • Clear ambition to progress into a technical or field-based sales role, • Full UK driving licence Working Pattern The role is office-based a minimum of two days per week. For candidates living outside a commutable distance, all travel and accommodation expenses will be fully covered. Why Apply?
