About the Role We are seeking a highly competent Category 1 Inspection Engineer / Technical Authority to join our team, providing technical leadership, assurance, and oversight across our inspection operations. The successful candidate will act as a Technical Authority within the company, ensuring inspection activities are compliant with legislative requirements, industry codes/standards, and UKAS ISO/IEC 17020 expectations. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of pressure systems, static equipment, and structures, supporting RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) programmes, and mentoring Category 2–4 inspectors. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Act as Technical Authority for inspection activities in line with company procedures and UKAS RG2 requirements., • Develop, approve, and review Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) and inspection strategies., • Provide engineering assessment and integrity advice to clients, including Fitness-for-Service (FFS) assessments., • Lead and participate in RBI reviews and risk assessments., • Approve inspection reports, LOAs, and competency sign-offs for lower-category inspectors (Cat 2–4)., • Support contract delivery teams with inspection activities, providing technical input, troubleshooting, and ensuring best practice across all projects., • Support audits, client reviews, and regulatory inspections (e.g. HSE)., • Ensure compliance with Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), LOLER, PUWER, COMAH, and other relevant legislation., • Deliver technical mentoring and competency development of the inspection team. Qualifications & Experience: • Engineering degree (BEng or higher) in a relevant discipline (Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgy, or similar). Alternatively, HNC/HND with significant industry experience may be considered if supplemented by further learning and professional development., • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Engineering Council (or working towards)., • Membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. IMechE, ICorr, Energy Institute)., • ASME L1 / L2, • API / EEMUA Qualifications, • Minimum 10 years relevant industry experience, with at least 5 years in an inspection/integrity role., • Demonstrable competence in integrity management, inspection engineering, RBI development, and Fitness-for-Service assessments., • Knowledge of UK regulatory requirements including PSSR, COMAH, LOLER., • Proven experience in technical authority/verification capacity., • Extensive knowledge of inspection techniques (NDT and ANDT), materials degradation, and failure mechanisms., • Strong understanding of international codes and standards (API, ASME, BS EN, ISO)., • Ability to lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and support engineering decision-making.
