We're looking for a proactive and detail-focused Commercial Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you'll be responsible for producing accurate financial reporting, analysis and inights that support business decision-making and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on position, working closely with the Financial Controller and collaborating across departments to drive efficiency, value and performance. Key Responsibilities • Close of years trading, balancing of ledgers, WIP and production of annual Statutory Accounts, • Liaise with external Auditors and Tax consultants, • Preparation and review of financial reports including month end reporting packs to deadlines, • Preparation and submission of statutory VAT returns, • Generation of analytical reports comparing actual performance versus planned, recommending actions improve, • Implement process change to add value to core processes. Candidate Profile • Part-Qualified member of an accounting body (ACCA/CIMA), • Moderate/Advanced Excel skills (VLookups, Pivot Tables, basic macros) which can be further developed, • Able to work with and analyse large amounts of data within Excel/other analytical tools, • Knowledge of all finance functions (purchase ledger, sales ledger, general ledger), • Experience of a ERP system (e.g. Sage 200), preferably within a manufacturing environment, • Full knowledge of the Financial processes which impact on the accounts. One paid day per year for volunteering in the community The Role: Reporting to the Credit Risk and Cash Collections Manager and working on a 15-month fixed term contract basis, you will be responsible for the end-to-end debt recovery process from your own portfolio of our business customers as well as acting as the first escalation point of contact for the debt recovery team. You will also be responsible for: Supporting line manager to improve the collections strategy onshore, offshore and with the external DCAs. Supporting and motivating debt team to provide agreed service to our customers, resolving all possible enquiries first time. Investigating and correcting issues including billing, payment, refunds, market and wholesaler interaction. Identifying trends in performance and managing these through the correct channels, creating new initiatives, and sharing ideas with the Process Improvement Lead. Ensuring that key department processes are regularly analysed and reported, enabling any gaps or process failures to be Recommending timely DCA, litigation or disconnection approach for uncollectable debt to minimise the aged/bad debt situation. Ensuring appropriate end to end steps for customers in financial difficulties, administration, liquidation, bankruptcy, or deceased situations. Qualifications, Skills and Experience: You will be a proven leader who can execute operational best practice to achieve service excellence as well as a track record of success in debt recovery and credit control. You will also have experience in dealing with the legal processes associated with debt management. Contact centre experience and knowledge of their systems, processes and procedures is essential as is the ability to design, implement and manage robust customer feedback systems. If you have worked in the water or utility industry, that would be a definite bonus!
