About Brighter Futures College Brighter Futures College is a specialist post-18 college supporting young adults with learning disabilities to develop independence, employment skills and confidence through practical, real-world learning. Our curriculum is 80% vocational and 20% classroom-based, enabling students to gain genuine work experience in community-facing enterprises. We are now launching an exciting community garden in Thamesmead (SE28) where students will learn horticulture, sustainability, and food-growing skills. Produce grown in the garden will be used in our student-run café and community pantry. We are also developing a floristry learning pathway in collaboration with Claridge's, helping students gain exposure to professional industry standards. The Opportunity We are looking for a passionate and practical Community Gardener & Horticulture Tutor to help establish and run our new community garden. This is a rare opportunity to build a garden programme from the ground up, working with students, staff, and the local community to create a vibrant learning environment. The role will initially start part-time but is expected to grow into a full-time position as the programme develops. Plan and execute small scale landscaping operations, as directed, to enhance the appearance of our communal grounds. Remove leaves, moss and snow as required, and apply salt/ grit as directed. Respond promptly to acts of vandalism, including graffiti, and report all incidents to the neighbourhood hub. On the job supervision and coaching of apprentices / trainees from time to time as directed Report any repairs or defects in communal areas to maintenance department/ line manager and follow up actions as required. Report suspected breaches of the tenancy agreement / lease to the Housing Services Manager e.g., anti-social behaviour, subletting, rubbish dumping, items left in communal areas etc. Provide cover in the absence of other colleagues. Be a point of contact for residents, assist where possible or refer enquiries to colleagues. Be aware of vulnerable customers and, where appropriate, highlight their needs to your line manager / Housing Team Act in a friendly, polite, and professional way at all times, even when challenged by residents or visitors to the estate. Grounds Maintenance Operative Catford, South London £14.80 per hour Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm (40 hours per week) About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established grounds maintenance company looking for a reliable and hardworking Grounds Maintenance Operative to join their team in Catford. This is a hands-on outdoor role suited to someone with experience in landscaping, gardening, or estate maintenance. If you’ve worked as a gardener, landscape operative, park maintenance worker, or similar, your skills could transfer well into this position.
