UK Management College is looking for an enthusiastic and confident individual to join our team as the Student Success Tutor. Our business is growing rapidly, and as such, we are excited to bring on board someone who will form a vital part of the success of our students. As this is a role in which you will be dealing with students face to face, this is an office-based role on our new campus in Sunderland. No two days will be the same at UKMC, it will be busy and very fast paced. Your role will be to assist students ensuring they are supported and dealt with fairly, efficiently, and with optimum results. The Student Success Tutor will mainly focus on student retention and satisfaction by providing excellent first-hand support for their academic needs. This is a student-centered role designed to coordinate the varied needs of students studying in our programs. It may include the delivery of workshops and other teaching-related activities. The selected candidate will also be responsible for communicating with students on a regular basis with a problem-solving and pre-emptive attitude to provide them with confidence regarding their study journey here at UKMC. The Student Success Tutor will act as an advisor for students and will guide and direct them in the right direction. They will work as a bridge between students, teaching staff and the admissions team. The position holder will provide the necessary support to students in terms of their academic needs, and questions, and, if required, arrange one-to-one sessions with students to clarify any problems or questions they might have. The position holder will support the students in terms of their submission deadlines, and links, as well as clarify the aspects of mitigating circumstances. If students need additional support, the position holder will speak to the student service/support team as well as the senior academic team for clear guidance on the support required. The position holder will ensure students receive the support required for their academic development and maintain student retention. Core Responsibilities: · Provide guidance to students regarding the support available to them when required. · Engage in the interests and enthusiasm of students, inspiring them to learn. · Support students in building relationships with other students and members of staff, fostering a sense of belonging to the university community. · Enable students to take responsibility for, and become partners in, their learning, academic progression, and achievement. · Develop appropriate methods and resources for teaching and learning support in relation to lectures, tutorials, and seminars, including online classes. · Monitor student progress, providing support, including advice on study skills, as required. · Analyse student difficulties, recommending instant support to resolve issues or referring on as appropriate. · Recognise mitigating circumstances, deferral processes, and other academic regulations to ensure students receive precise support and suggestions based on their situation and needs. · Provide basic academic support to students, both inside and outside the classroom. · Help students to find appropriate learning resources. · Recognise and report usual academic and IT-related matters that might benefit from a preventive resolution. · Monitor student attendance on a session-by-session basis and take support from the support team to identify any risk that may arise. · Ensure the students are engaged and continuing their studies by overcoming any barrier. · Work closely with the student support team to develop a multidimensional support system for the students. · Work with the academic team to contact all students who have not submitted assessments and work with them on the retention process where needed. · Be proactive in identifying and escalating areas of risk to the student experience or institutional reputation. · Actively participate in enrolment and induction processes to develop a strong link with the students from the very first moments of their journey here at UKMC. In order to fulfill their responsibilities, the Student Success Tutor will: 1. Arrange to provide contact details to the student during registration., 2. Actively participate in face-to-face or online induction activities., 3. Retain records of meetings or other means of contact with the student in accordance with Data Protection legislation and University guidelines., 4. Arrange to meet or have contact with the tutee at least once per term., 5. Be familiar with the services that are available both within and outside of the classroom (e.g. Student Support, Library)., 6. Direct students to appropriate academic colleagues when additional program support is needed., 7. Monitor the student’s progress and direct them to appropriate individual support if their progress is not satisfactory., 8. Respect the student’s right to confidentiality, obtaining their permission should it be necessary to discuss the student’s circumstances with others; (in certain exceptional circumstances, disclosure may have to take place against your wishes for the avoidance of significant risk);, 9. Direct the student to appropriate support for the development of study skills., 10. Respect the student’s right not to seek or accept support or guidance, even though this might be disadvantageous to their progress., 11. Act as an advocate for the student where appropriate and contribute to requests for references., 12. Comply with the School’s Equality and Diversity policy when undertaking all activities., 13. Undertake appropriate professional development to benefit their role Requirements · Bachelor’s degree from any UK recognised university and minimum 1 years of experience in working at any HEI environment in teaching or academic support role. · A clear idea about how the academic team works. · Good understanding of current practice and developments in own discipline. · Understanding of evidence-led/practice-based teaching and its implementation in teaching and learning practice. · Able to work as part of a team and independently as required. · Able to coordinate and prioritise a range of activities effectively. · The candidate must be flexible, approachable, and helpful with a strong customer service ethic as well as willing to go the extra mile to provide the best environment and support to the students. · Experience in tutoring and/or providing support for the academic experience of students. · Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines. · Collegiate approach to work. · Ability to work effectively and courteously in a team of academic staff. · Ability to adapt to a flexible approach to the demands of a busy college/department in order to accommodate changes in priorities when required.
