As a Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure and developer platforms that enable the delivery of high-quality gambling entertainment software. Location: Newcastle-upon-Tyne Employment type: Full-time Seniority level: Mid‑Senior level Job function: Engineering and Information Technology • Contribute to the design, architecture, and implementation of platform engineering solutions that improve stability, scalability, performance, and security., • Build cloud‑agnostic platform solutions, following a write once, deploy anywhere approach., • Design and maintain automated systems across infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and CI/CD pipelines, aligned with GitOps principles., • Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code and supporting platform services using high‑quality, well‑tested code., • Implement and support monitoring, logging, and alerting to ensure platform reliability and observability., • Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to enable smooth application delivery and adoption of platform capabilities., • Support services post‑deployment, including troubleshooting and participation in an on‑call rotation when required., • Create and maintain clear documentation to support ongoing use, understanding, and maintenance of platform services., • Continuously look for ways to simplify how we work and improve our platform, tooling, and practices., • Play an active role in architectural decision‑making and propose alternative approaches where appropriate., • Share deep technical expertise across platform, DevOps, and operational practices., • Mentor and support others, acting as a role model within the team., • Communicate complex technical topics clearly to non‑technical stakeholders., • Identify risks early and communicate them clearly and professionally., • Champion improvements to both our technology stack and ways of working., • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and platform engineering concepts., • Professional experience writing, testing, and maintaining high‑quality code in one or more programming languages (e.g. C#, Go, Python, or similar)., • Experience designing and implementing backend services, APIs, and integration patterns (including RESTful APIs and microservices)., • Good understanding of software design principles, testing practices (unit, integration, automation), and quality standards., • Experience building or contributing to CI/CD pipelines and automated developer workflows., • Familiarity with containerised application development and deployment., • Experience working in Agile development environments., • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non‑technical audiences., • Ability to manage priorities, work across multiple initiatives, and deliver reliably., • A willingness to learn, adapt, and pick up new tools, technologies, and ways of working., • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP., • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform)., • Exposure to container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Helm) and broader platform tooling., • Understanding of observability practices and tools (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK)., • Knowledge of networking, security principles, and compliance considerations., • Experience with Linux‑based systems and scripting (e.g. Bash, PowerShell, Python)., • Awareness of cost optimisation, scaling strategies, and multi‑cloud or hybrid environments., • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g. Puppet)., • A software‑first mindset with an interest in platform engineering., • Curiosity and willingness to cross‑skill between software and infrastructure over time., • A pragmatic approach to solving problems through automation and simplification., • A friendly, flexible and trust‑based approach to working, • 25 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays and a typically very generous Christmas break, • The use of a mobile phone or tablet of your choice, with the monthly contract covered by us, • ‘Select Enhanced’ Bupa private healthcare – access from day 1 which covers all pre‑existing conditions, • Fully matched private pension scheme (up to 8% matched), • Life Assurance which pays out x4 of your salary to a nominated person(s), • Employee Assistance Programme – Bede players have access to support and practical advice on a variety of issues that might impact their life (provided by Bupa), • Innovation time – Engineers have regular opportunities to spend time developing skills and innovating., • A great office life!
