The senior waste and radiation protection specialist will play a key role in providing radiation protection advice and training to support a range of operational projects, such as site investigations, land remediation, drain surveys and waste assay campaigns. In addition, they will provide radioactive waste support in terms of Waste Management Plans, Best Available Technique (BAT) Assessments and Sample and Analysis Plans. The Role As a Senior Waste and Radiation Protection Specialist, your role will include: • Provision of radiation protection advice that will ensure working practices meet the requirements of current Legislation and best practice., • Evaluate the operational environment and the radiological requirements to provide Radiation Risk Assessments (RRA) for the work in hand., • Advise teams on operational styles that should be adopted to maintain a safe working environment and provide training, as appropriate., • Co-ordinate the production of radiological protection documentation such as Normal Operational Dose Uptake Assessments, Radiological Zoning, Radiological Risk Assessments, ALARP Assessments, Operating Instructions and compliance statements., • Develop and maintain knowledge of the characterisation and land quality core services and capabilities., • Engage with regulatory authorities to support Permit applications, transfers and variations., • Provide guidance, advise and training to customers regarding HSE notifications and registration, typically required for land remediation contracts on historic sites, i.e., thorium and radium contamination., • Provide transport RRA’s for radioactive waste and source transfers, • Write technical reports and support characterisation assessments and desk studies., • Attend industry events, conferences, and trade shows as required. Key Responsibilities • Execute electrical and functional test procedures on engineering test benches, flight spacecraft and payloads, • Prepare electrical test setups, make electrical measurements, and execute functional tests, • Use Central Checkout System (CCS), Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), and Spacecraft Check Out Equipment (SCOE), • Validate test aids, update procedures, raise work orders, and prepare test documentation, • Support development and debugging of automated test procedures (ATP), • Assist with electrical integration, automated/manual tests at unit, subsystem, and system level, • Support environmental and launch test campaigns, • Support department operations, including equipment calibration and logistics Skills & Experience Required • Knowledge of spacecraft electrical systems and harnesses, • Familiarity with spacecraft subsystems (Data Handling, Power, Thermal, etc.), • Competence with electrical and RF test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, signal generator, power meter, network analyser, etc.), • Computer skills for test documentation; experience with Digital Design and Manufacturing Systems (DDMS) beneficial, • Experience updating test sequences/scripts for spacecraft tests from CCS, • Awareness of cleanroom disciplines, • Experience in electrical integration, test equipment, and environmental/launch campaigns Education & Training • Minimum HNC or NVQ Level 4 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience, 5+ years) Additional Details • Full-time, on-site role, • Shift work, • Two-stage interview process (telephone and on-site) To apply: Please submit an up to date copy of your CV to be considered for this position.
