The Consumer Safety function within Essential Home has the responsibility to ensure consumers’ safety for all Essential Home’s products. It ensures the application of human and environmental risk assessment and the communication of issues that may impact consumer safety or regulatory toxicology across the Essential Home business. It delivers this through the mitigation of human harm & environmental safety risks through the safety and toxicological review of ingredients, product, packaging and articles across the product lifecycle. The function maximises and leverages toxicological and scientific expertise to facilitate innovation, drive safety by design, ensure product compliance and deliver a competitive advantage to Essential Home. The integrated Consumer Safety team has been created to drive the strategic agenda of the Department by delivering technical safety input in guidance and partnership with the business needs of Essential Home. Success in this space depends on a robust understanding of both science and commerce and will ensure Essential Home always has the consumer at the heart of all it does. • Responsible for day-to-day management of a dedicated team of hazard and exposure toxicologists and experts in toxicological risk assessment and GHS., • Provide appropriate governance and oversight to ensure delivery of timely, high quality safety output from the team., • Provide timely communications to internal teams and external agencies in relation to safety issues related to Essential Home marketed products., • As an experienced manager, you enjoy building teams and sharing your knowledge to improve results, but are also comfortable having more difficult conversations, when required. You will be accountable and responsible for the training and mentoring of toxicologists to continuously develop their technical expertise and Essential Home safety led competencies., • Will be a contributor and a subject matter expert within the safety organisation with strong business acumen and an in-depth technical knowledge of consumer FMCG products., • Follow scientific and regulatory development in the field of product safety by active participation in relevant external bodies and meetings as appropriate to pro-actively address and implement new knowledge and standards where applicable., • The individual will be responsible for ensuring that the Company safety standards are met for all existing Company products and will actively contribute to the development and maintenance of processes, policies, guidelines to drive high quality consistent deliverables., • BSc or higher degree preferred in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and/or a related science, • 15+ years extensive industry and/or regulatory experience in product stewardship, REACh, the creation of GHS documentation or, preferably, Poison Centre Notifications., • Product safety leadership experience in relevant FMCG product category(ies) (e.g. detergents, fragrances, raw materials, pesticides, biocides, cosmetics)., • Good working knowledge of the principles of GHS, Annex VIII of CLP, REACh, the creation of safety language labelling and associated guidelines., • Strong understanding of inhalation toxicology assessments and/or systems and processes used to produce PCNs and classification and labelling of, preferably, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)., • Good analytical and interpersonal skills., • Good understanding of commercial company systems and processes., • You will need to display excellent communication skills in both verbal and written forms, good business acumen and interpersonal skills, to deliver the appropriate safety expertise and competencies to support innovation of the maintenance of Essential Home products., • Ability to understand stakeholders’ timelines and objectives and a strong appreciation and understanding of the business impact of product safety., • Proven experience in conducting hazard and product safety risk assessment., • Ability to analyse and interpret data and document within a formal risk assessment.
