We’re seeking an experienced Safety and Compliance Manager to lead on all aspects of health, safety, and regulatory compliance within a scientific research environment. This role plays a key part in ensuring the organisation operates to the highest standards of safety, supporting scientific teams and leadership through proactive risk management and expert guidance. Key Responsibilities • Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and regulatory frameworks, including requirements from the Health and Safety Executive, Human Tissue Authority, and Home Office., • Act as the organisation’s appointed Biological Safety Officer, providing expert advice on biological safety, GMO risk assessments, and containment practices., • Develop, implement, and maintain robust health and safety management systems, including policies, SOPs, and risk assessments., • Monitor and promote a positive safety culture across all sites, providing leadership and support to teams on best practice., • Manage safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, reporting on safety metrics and continuous improvement initiatives., • Maintain compliance calendars, legal registers, and documentation to ensure timely reviews, renewals, and submissions., • Represent the organisation in interactions with regulators, inspectors, and external stakeholders., • Deliver engaging training programmes and communications to raise awareness of safety responsibilities across the organisation. Skills and Experience • Proven experience in health and safety compliance within a scientific, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment., • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and practical experience in applying it to laboratory operations., • Experience with Biological Safety Officer (BSO) responsibilities and regulatory bodies such as the HTA and Home Office., • Confident in conducting audits, inspections, and developing training materials., • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to work autonomously, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving safety challenges.
