Sous Chef Lead the line at a destination farm-resort restaurant Location: Rural resort setting, easily commutable Salary: £38,000 plus up to £5,000 tronc bonus Contract: Permanent, full-time Live-In / Accommodation: Available on site at approximately £100 per week Overview A high-profile granary-style restaurant set within a much-loved farm and leisure resort is looking for a talented Sous Chef to step into a senior position in the kitchen. This is a destination venue where fresh, seasonal, produce-led food is at the heart of everything, and where the daytime dining offer draws a steady stream of visitors throughout the year. This is a rare opportunity for a chef who values quality of life as much as quality of food. With predominantly daytime hours and most shifts finishing around 6pm, it offers the kind of work-life balance that is hard to find in hospitality, without compromising on ambition or standards in the kitchen. The Role As Sous Chef you will be the right hand to the Head Chef, running the pass, leading the brigade in their absence, and taking ownership of consistency, standards, and the smooth running of a busy daytime service. You will play a key part in menu development, making the most of fresh and locally available produce, and helping to maintain the reputation that makes this such a sought-after place to eat. Key Responsibilities Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen and deputise in their absence Lead and motivate the kitchen team to deliver consistent, high-quality dishes throughout service Oversee the pass and ensure every plate leaving the kitchen meets the agreed standard Contribute to menu development, specials, and seasonal changes using fresh, produce-led ingredients Manage stock control, ordering, and supplier relationships to minimise waste and protect margins Maintain rigorous food safety, hygiene, and health-and-safety standards across the kitchen Support the training and development of junior chefs and kitchen staff Key Requirements Proven experience as a Sous Chef, or a strong Chef de Partie ready to step up A genuine passion for fresh, seasonal, produce-led cooking Confident leading a brigade and running a busy service from the pass Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen compliance Calm, organised, and reliable under pressure, with strong attention to detail A team player who can develop and inspire those around them This role will suit an ambitious chef who wants to do brilliant food while enjoying a genuinely sociable working pattern, rather than the late nights that so often come with the industry.
