Aviation Field Service Engineer Location: Southampton Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm Salary: £55,000 per annum (Negotiable depending on experience) Excellent Benefits Purpose of the job Become highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities, and operation of Garmin avionic products, and provide technical support on Garmin products to customers and distributors. Key Duties; Answer technical inquiries regarding Garmin products via telephone, email, and letters concerning operational, troubleshooting and avionics installation related issues. Receive and answer customer inquiries and requests regarding products, orders, pricing and other services offered. Work with customers to determine which products, accessories and plan of action best serve their individual needs. Arrange, with liaison with a services team, repairs and exchanges for customers and distributors. Remain current on changes in policies, procedures, and product offerings. Act as liaison between customer and associates of other departments within Garmin. Develop and maintain department and company image and philosophy to the public. Be highly knowledgeable in the specifications, capabilities and operation of Garmin products. Monitor, document and report failure trends in Garmin equipment. Identify and recommend improvements in Garmin products, documentation and procedures. Review special circumstances and authorize warranty service when deemed appropriate. Provide guidance on regulatory topics concerning various equipment and aircraft operations under EASA/CAA/FAA regulations. Ability to be on a rotation for 24/7 aviation technical support coverage. Provide fielded on-site customer support as directed. Provide support as directed by your management team. Accept and complete projects and other miscellaneous Aviation Support duties as assigned. Represent Garmin at industry and professional meetings, conferences, and trade shows as required. Willingness to participate and potentially lead technical training events as agreed with your management team. Position summary We are seeking a qualified Electrician to support drone-based electroluminescence (EL) inspection work across commercial and utility-scale solar sites. The role involves isolating and energising PV strings, connecting biasing equipment, and ensuring all electrical tasks are completed safely and to industry standards. This is a field-based position suited to someone who is technically skilled, safety-focused, and comfortable working in outdoor and utility-scale environments. The role will involve frequent travel within the UK and internationally. What you’ll do You will prepare PV arrays for EL inspections by safely isolating circuits, configuring electrical test equipment, and supporting drone pilot on-site. You will also read schematics to select the required tools and evaluate the complexity of the inspection, complete pre- and post- inspection documentation, and troubleshoot electrical or communication issues in the filed as needed. You will ensure that all electrical works are compliant with BS 7671 and site specific requirements. This is primarily a field-based role and can involve early morning starts, evening and night work, and travel with overnight stays. Full training will be provided on the method of electrical biasing for EL inspection. You will also be involved in training electrical technicians from our partners in other countries to perform the inspection. There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to receive full training in becoming a drone pilot and supporting on additional inspection flights. What you’ll bring • A BS 7671 18th Edition qualification (or 17th edition with willingness to upgrade), • A recognised Solar PV installation certificate, • At least two years’ experience working with or fitting solar systems, • Strong understanding of PV module layout, string configuration, and solar farm electrical architecture., • You should be confident with wiring, earthing, DC systems, basic networking, and working at heights., • Good communication skills and ability to work within a field team under time-critical project schedules., • Ability to work with Microsoft Office products and complete necessary documentation., • Willingness to travel frequently,, • A full clean driving licence, clear background check, and strong initiative, communication, and time-management skills are essential,, • Demonstrated ability to train and mentor electrical technicians.
