You'll play a key role in shaping the company's product development program - designing new components, improving existing products and ensuring designs are optimised for manufacturability and long-term reliability. What you'll be doing • Producing accurate 3D models and 2D technical drawings for standard and bespoke components., • Driving design change requests and supporting continuous improvement initiatives., • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including parts lists, manuals and approval drawings., • Working closely with production, quality, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition from concept to manufacture., • Identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce warranty issues and implement innovative design solutions. What you'll bring • Proven experience as a design engineer within a manufacturing or fabrication environment (sheet metal or plastics preferred)., • Strong 3D CAD skills using Autodesk Inventor or similar (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, etc.)., • Good understanding of DFM, root cause analysis, and product validation processes., • HND or degree in mechanical or product design engineering (or similar)., • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Nice to have • Experience working within an ISO9001-certified environment., • Knowledge of Autodesk Vault or Revit ., • Familiarity with LEV systems or lab-based mechanical products . They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in the Taunton area on a permanent basis. The Mechanical Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes: • At least 2 years of experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineering position, • Experienced with machinery design, hydraulics, sheet metal and precision components, • Strong 3D CAD skills – ideally Inventor or SolidWorks, • Knowledge of rotating equipment, SPM, valves, pumps, actuators, pneumatics, gauges, piping etc. would be beneficial, • Strong practical skills – hand calculations, verification, validation, FEA, testing, prototyping, • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ / ONC qualified or similar in Mechanical Engineering or similar, • Experienced designing products from concept to production, • Able to manage projects and work to deadlines and budgets, • Able to maintain technical documentation and BOM entry, • Innovative, accurate and passionate about design, • Be technically minded with a head for problem solving, • Excellent leadership and organisational skills, • Able to work well individually as well as part of a team The Mechanical Design Engineer role will involve: • Using CAD for concept design and producing technical drawings, • Using Inventor software for design on a day-to-day basis, • Being responsible for research, hand calculations, FEA, testing and prototyping, • Managing the full product lifecycle from concept to production, • Creating models/prototypes, • Liaising with clients and developing solutions for design specifications, • Collaborating with different departments to ensure the smooth delivery of projects, • Maintaining technical drawings and documentation, • Providing technical guidance and support, • Supporting product Testing, Verification & Validation, • Supporting more junior members of the team If you are interested in this position, please apply with an up to date CV as soon as possible.
