Location: Taunton / Somerset and Surrounding Areas Project Type: Minor Civils works - Culverts, drainage, groundworks Role: Works Delivery Manager Sector: Civil Engineering Start: ASAP Employment: Freelance or Permanent Overview We are looking for an experienced Works delivery manager to oversee a number of civils projects with Somerset council. The role will involve culvert refurbs and replacements, groundworks, drainage etc. The ideal candidate will have strong experience delivering non-infrastructure and/or infrastructure water projects, excellent client‑facing skills, and the ability to manage multi‑disciplinary teams across multiple locations. Responsibilities • Lead the delivery of culvert construction/upgrade projects across two sites, • Manage project programmes, risks, resources, and cost control, • Oversee all on-site activities including civils and temporary works, • Ensure compliance with council processes, standards and permitting, • Liaise closely with internal teams, designers, subcontractors, and client representatives, • Drive health, safety, environmental and quality performance across both schemes, • Produce progress reports, manage change, and support commercial teams with NEC contract activities, • Coordinate daily operations across both locations, ensuring works remain aligned to programme, • Lead planning meetings, audits, safety briefings, and stakeholder communications, • Support innovation, digital delivery, and continuous improvement initiatives, • Mentor and provide leadership to site engineers, supervisors, and delivery partners Experience Required • Proven experience as a Works Delivery Manager delivering civils projects, • Experience managing storm tanks, tanks refurb, deep drainage, pipelines, civils, or MEICA‑related works, • Strong background in heavy civils and multi-disciplinary project management, • Experience managing multiple sites at the same time is highly desirable, • Strong understanding of NEC contracts (Option A/C/E), • Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and supply chain, • Excellent safety leadership and operational control, • Commercially aware, programme driven, and able to deliver under pressure Qualifications • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred but not essential for strong experience), • SMSTS, • CSCS (Management or Professional level), • First Aid (desirable), • Ideally NEC Project Manager accreditation or equivalent understanding, • Full UK driving licence What We’re Looking For A proactive leader who can coordinate two technically-complex water sites, maintain excellent client relationships, and deliver safe, compliant, and efficient outcomes. Someone with a solid Thames Water background and a strong track record in storm tanks or similar water infrastructure will fit this role perfectly
