Job Summary To deliver profitable, de-risked, winning bids on time and to the highest quality. This role is focused on preparing and winning the larger and more complex tenders for the business, managing robust and long-term relationships with clients and internal teams in line with the general strategy. To lead the creation of estimates for highly complex programmes of work, bringing technical expertise and experience of completing estimates for large and complex programmes. To work across different components and workstreams to inform business cases and ensure all decisions are made based on accurate future cost forecasts. Duties & Responsibilities · Lead the estimating team on relevant tenders, process and resources with a high degree of commercial acumen and skill · To be accountable and able to quality assure the estimates of the wider team, ensuring estimates produced are robust for use in business planning and funding decisions · To lead and prepare the complete commercial and pricing element of a tender or cost plan and coordinate external resources · Undertake the production of tender documents, take the lead commercially, attend pre-tender and post tender interviews with both internal management and clients · Manage the estimating process and resources with a high degree of commercial acumen and skill · Ensure monitoring of tender process is in place for all tenders and report on progress via estimating plan · To identify opportunities to add value throughout the project process, as well as identifying and escalating risks · To sign off a detailed control document to handover to delivery team · To co-operate on matters of health and safety and follow the training provided. To take reasonable care of personal and other people’s health and safety at all times · To ensure that department operations are conducted in accordance with the Company’s Health & Safety policy. Ensure suitable and sufficient risk assessments are conducted considering both colleagues and contractors/customers and introduce measures to reduce the risks to as low a level as reasonably practicable · To encourage and support your team in enhancing their performance by providing direction, regular feedback and development opportunities · Any other duties consistent with the role of Senior Estimator as may be required from time to time. Qualifications/Experience • A degree (or equivalent) in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or extensive experience, • Minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience, • Experience of overseeing Estimators across numerous sites, • Awareness of and adherence to company policies and health and safety requirements, • Experience gained in complex and geographically dispersed construction or built environment businesses, • Ability to undertake project planning, project management and work to budgets, • Commitment to continual learning to refine, further develop and apply expertise to add distinctive value to the company, • Experience of successfully embedding change in an organisation, • Excellent IT skills – proficient in Microsoft suite of programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Competencies • Commercially astute with a strong understanding of the construction process, • A self-starter able to demonstrate high levels of initiative, tenacity and self-motivation and be comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy, • Has strong problem solving and considered decision-making skills, • Methodical, analytical and organised with an attention to detail, • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, • Ability to work under pressure, • Able to build effective relationships across the business and externally at all levels, • Strong motivation to mentor and upskill junior team members, • Personable and effective team player, • Open to feedback with a willingness to learn and improve
