Job Description LGBTQ+ Outreach & Engagement Specialist Organization: In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Location: Albany, NY Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site Reports To: Director of Health Services About In Our Own Voices In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is a Black-led, LGBTQ+ people-of-color–centered nonprofit organization dedicated to the survival, healing, and empowerment of LGBTQ+ communities. As one of the nation’s few comprehensive LGBTQ+ POC organizations, IOOV delivers culturally grounded health services, advocacy, and community-building rooted in racial justice, gender equity, and collective care. Position Overview The LGBTQ+ Outreach & Engagement Specialist is a highly visible, community-facing role focused on building trust, expanding access to care, and reducing health disparities among LGBTQ+ people of color—particularly Women Who Have Sex with Women (WSW), Young Men Who Have Sex with Men (YMSM), and Transgender, Gender Non-Conforming, and Non-Binary (TGNCNB) individuals. This role integrates public health outreach, HIV and HCV testing, peer engagement, and client-centered support. The Specialist represents IOOV across diverse community settings, including college campuses, nightlife venues, salons, barbershops, community events, and neighborhood health spaces. Key Responsibilities Outreach, Testing & Health Education • Conduct in-person and virtual outreach to WSW, YMSM, and TGNCNB communities, with a focus on underserved and historically marginalized populations., • Provide HIV and HCV testing, counseling, and linkage to care using trauma-informed, culturally responsive approaches., • Represent IOOV at community events, health fairs, campuses, and local venues., • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, businesses, and service providers., • Link clients to affirming health and support services, including PrEP, STI testing, mental health care, and case management., • Accurately document outreach activities, testing services, referrals, and outcomes in compliance with organizational and funder requirements. Minimum Requirements • Associate’s degree in Health Education, Human Services, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred)., • At least one year of professional experience working with TGNCNB, WSW, and/or YMSM communities., • At least one year of experience in HIV prevention, sexual health education, or community outreach., • Demonstrated cultural humility and comfort engaging LGBTQ+ communities in a variety of public and nontraditional settings., • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends., • Bilingual (Spanish/English)., • HIV and/or HCV testing certification, or willingness to obtain certification within 90 days of hire., • Strong understanding of health equity, intersectionality, and LGBTQ+ cultural dynamics., • Ability to build authentic relationships and trust with historically marginalized communities., • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and engagement skills., • Comfort working independently in community settings while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
