Title: AVP of Accounting/Controller Position Status: Full Time Exempt Reports To: VP of Accounting Target hiring pay range: $91,287 - $114,109 The listed pay information includes the minimum rate of pay to the mid-point rate of pay for the posted position The actual compensation for this position may vary based upon, but not limited to, licenses or certifications, education or equivalent work experience, market data, qualifications, relevant experience, prior work and performance history, geographic location, and business sector. Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to assist APCU Center Parc Credit Union to live out our Mission, “To help our members achieve financial success by providing exceptional products and service.” The AVP/Controller provides leadership and oversight of Atlanta Postal Credit Union’s accounting activities ensuring best practices and compliance within generally accepted accounting principles, monitoring of financial health, metrics and measurement, financial planning, and timely analysis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned. • Adhere to and deliver on APCU Center Parc’s core values:, • Serve Exceptionally, • Commit to Better, • Find the Fun, • Invest in Integrity, • Follow the Numbers, • Go Forth and Conquer, • Protect with Passion, • Provide oversight of daily accounting functions, including but not limited to, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger activity, fixed assets, reconciliation, reporting, etc., • Foster a culture of accuracy, efficiency, accountability, and best practices., • Ensure that various and appropriate methods are deployed to measure the impact, overall success, and accuracy of the accounting functions for the credit union., • Oversee and review the month-end closing process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting., • Gathers information for board reports and participates in the preparation of documentation and reporting for board review., • As required, assist in budgeting and forecasting by providing trends and analysis, • Monitors monthly operating expenses and budget variances and ensures ongoing compliance with established budgetary guidelines., • Utilizes appropriate financial systems, tools, processes, and resources to support all the financial planning, management, and reporting needs of the credit union., • Establishes criteria for periodic review and evaluation of accounting processes and procedures., • Comply with federal, state, and local financial requirements, laws, and regulations; Maintains up to date knowledge and keeps abreast of new compliance legislation., • Responsible for internal and external audits, NCUA examinations, and compliance issues related to the accounting department; Recommends and communicates compliance and/or corrective actions as needed., • Supports the preparation of financial and statistical reporting including inputs to the NCUA Call report and other internal reporting., • Provide coaching and mentoring to team members to ensure their capacity to deliver quality work and excellent service to members: Completes staff performance evaluations., • Maintain and monitor annual online training plans for direct reports; Encourages outside learning and development opportunities for staff where appropriate., • Attend senior management meetings and other managerial and employee meetings., • Consistently communicate a positive and clear message around the credit union’s strategic goals and objectives., • Actively attend or participate in industry related legal conferences, or conventions related to the position., • Effectively use written and oral communication skills in all daily correspondence., • Expresses thoughts and ideas in a compelling manner in both individual and group situations; Has the ability to drive confidence and action in plans when presenting the board, committees, or senior leadership team., • Comply with all aspects of BSA/AML and OFAC regulations as they relate to this position., • Overnight and weekend travel is up to 15%., • Other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises 5-10 accounting team members and the accounting manager. Many results are accomplished through indirect reporting relationships or through a matrixed management approach and the ability to collaboratively interact with internal and external partners Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or Experience: • A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field, • Five years of experience in accounting or finance, ideally in a bank or credit union environment, • Proven work history in financial reporting, general ledger management and regulatory compliance, • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in accounting or finance, • Experience with fixed assets, cash management, and journal entries PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or Experience: • Advanced understating of internal controls, budgeting and forecasting and knowledge of software and applications that add efficiencies to the process, • Five years in an accounting or finance leadership role in a bank or credit union, • Job specific certification (s) such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Asset Liability Risk Management (MLARM), etc., • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines such as calculator, computer, printer, facsimile, telephone, copier, etc. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop as needed. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of 5 to 20 pounds.
