Job DescriptionDescription: About Us The Veterinary Emergency Hospital Arlington (VEHA) is a privately owned urgent care clinic, established as an extension of both the veterinary community and our main hospital and company, Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Midlothian (VEHM). Together, VEHA and VEHM function as one cohesive organization, united in our commitment to providing compassionate, high-quality veterinary care across both locations. Currently, we are open daily from 10 AM to 10 PM, including weekends and holidays, and we take pride in delivering progressive, compassionate patient care alongside exemplary client service. Ideal Candidate for the Veterinary Technician Position The ideal candidate is a highly motivated and skilled veterinary technician with prior clinical experience who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position is not entry-level—candidates should come equipped with hands-on experience and be comfortable performing a broad range of technical tasks with confidence and efficiency. You will work closely with veterinarians and lead technicians in a high-impact role, contributing to triage, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, medication administration, and full-spectrum patient care. Position Type Available: Full-Time | Part-Time | Optional Split-Location with VEHM You’ll be hands-on in: • Urgent and emergency care, • Surgical and procedural assistance, • Anesthetic monitoring, • Inpatient and outpatient treatment, • Client education and communication, • Pharmacy and medication administrationWhat We Offer, • Flexible shifts: Full-time, part-time, or optional split-location roles between VEHA and VEHM Midlothian, • Competitive wages (based on experience), shift differential, and overtime pay, • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, • Wellhub wellness app program, • Short-term, long-term disability, and life insurance, • 401(k) with employer match, • Generous PTO and pet care discount, • A non-corporate, supportive team culture focused on learning, growth, and compassionate careKey Job Duties:Patient Care, • Obtain and document patient histories, • Educate and communicate with clients, • Initiate triage and emergency procedures, • Provide wound care and bandage, etc, • Monitor anesthesia and critical care patients (induction, intubation, extubation, recovery, critical vital monitoring, • Administer medications (oral,OU, SQ, IV, IM, transdermal), • Assist with the euthanasia process, aftercare, and clients Diagnostics & Treatment, • Collect and process lab samples (CBC, Coags, Snap, UA, etc.), • Perform and assist with digital radiographs, ultrasound, ECG, BP, SPO2, ETCO2, • Support special and surgical procedures, • Place and manage IV catheters, feeding tubes,, • Provide inpatient and outpatient care, and assist with patient transfers and discharges, ensuring continuity of patient care and client communication throughout the process.Surgical & Equipment Support, • Induce, intubate, monitor, and recover patients from anesthesia, • Sterilize surgical instruments and maintain clean surgical areas, • Operate oxygen systems (nasal cannula, high-flow, concentrators, tanks, etc)Additional Responsibilities, • Medical Record Keeping, • Provide front-desk customer service support (phones, payments, client check-in/out), • Assist with facility cleaning, laundry, inventory etc., • Remains processing, cremation and home burial arrangements as neededWork Requirements & Physical Demands, • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted, • Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, or reaching, • Radiation exposure during diagnostic imaging, • Ethylene oxide gas (used in sterilization processes), • Hazardous medications and controlled substances, • Infectious and zoonotic diseases from ill or injured animals, • Disinfectants and chemical agents used in cleaning and sanitation, • Unpleasant odors, loud noises, and other environmental factors, • Animal-related injuries, including bites, scratches, and exposure to bodily fluids We’re excited at the pawsibility of welcoming you into the next chapter of your veterinary journey—right here with us at VEHA/VEHM, where passion meets purpose in urgent and emergency care. Requirements: Qualifications • 2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Technician, • Emergency or critical care experience preferred, but not required, • Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT) and non-licensed technicians are welcome to apply, • Remains calm, effective, and compassionate in critical situations, • Strong veterinary technical skills (including restraint, IVC placement, sample collection, patient monitoring), • Excellent customer service skills, • Strong critical thinking, communication, and multitasking skills, • Experience with EzyVet and/or Veterinary Emergency software is a plus, • Demonstrates technical proficiency in core veterinary skills
