ABOUT THE JOB As a Transport Mechanic at CEMEX, As a Transport Mechanic at Cemex, you will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of diesel tractors, trailers, and other wheeled vehicles. You will collaborate with a team to ensure the safe, efficient operation of our fleet while maintaining compliance with industry and company standards. This role requires a solid mechanical background, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and preventive maintenance protocols. WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO As a Transport Mechanic at Cemex, your daily responsibilities will include: · Equipment Diagnostics & Repair: Inspect, diagnose, and repair all transport mobile equipment. Complete required DOT inspections and associated documentation. · Collaboration: Discuss in-depth repair needs and strategies with the Terminal Manager and Supervisor to address complex or recurring mechanical issues. · Safety Compliance: Enforce CEMEX safety policies, including lockout/tagout procedures and hazard assessments. Maintain shop and repair areas in full compliance with OSHA regulations and CEMEX Health and Safety policies and practices. · Routine Maintenance: Perform scheduled maintenance in accordance with the preventive maintenance (PM) checklist. · Equipment Component Repair: Utilize hydraulic jacks, hoists, jack stands as needed to raise equipment and access mechanical components for repair or inspection. Components may include, but are not limited to: alternators, starters, water pumps, clutches, transmissions, wheels, brakes, suspension systems, air bags, air chambers, S-cams and bushings, wheel seals, hubs, spindles, and other related parts. · System Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and repair air systems, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related components. Perform overhauls, rebuilds, and repairs of serviceable parts to restore equipment to proper working condition. · Welding & Cutting: Perform occasional welding and cutting using gas and electric tools. · Accessory Repairs: Install or repair accessories including lights and lighting systems, signals, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Perform maintenance or replacement of components such as blowers, hoses, aerators, hatch lids, butterfly valves, pop-off valves, mud flaps, brackets, and other accessories as required to meet DOT standards. · Documentation: Enter work orders, create requisitions, and receive materials in the system to support inventory control and maintenance operations.. · Travel: Perform some regional travel to repair company equipment as needed · Safety Standards: Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA regulations, and uphold the highest safety standards. · Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by management. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR To succeed in this role, you should bring: · Experience & Education: High school diploma or equivalent with at least 3 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience. · Mechanical Skills: Strong ability to diagnose and repair mechanical systems and electrical systems in diesel-powered vehicles and trailers. · Communication Skills: Strong ability to understand, interpret, and follow both verbal and written instructions in English. · Bilingual: Spanish language skills are a plus. · Problem-Solving: Ability to identify hazardous situations and apply critical thinking to safely resolve mechanical issues. · Licensing: A valid driver’s license is required; Class A or B CDL is preferred. A clean driving record may also be necessary for test-driving or operating company vehicles. · Certifications: Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain) is required. TWIC certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain). WORKING CONDITIONS · Safety First: Must consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the shop, in the field, and on plant grounds. · Dynamic Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, weather conditions, and noise, as well as potential hazards associated with working on heavy equipment in an industrial setting. · Physical Requirements: Role involves extended periods of standing, as well as squatting, bending, walking and sitting for short periods, and lifting up to 75 lbs WHY CEMEX?
