Our medical malpractice insurance defense firm has an opening for an experienced, full-time litigation secretary for a busy partner’s practice. The position is non-exempt and a 37.5-hour work week supporting a partner in a single assignment. We offer an excellent health and benefits package and 401(K) profit sharing plan. We are flexible with a hybrid schedule after an initial period in the office. The successful candidate is a well-organized, detail-oriented team player with at least 3 years recent California litigation experience; medical malpractice insurance defense highly preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Successful job applicants must be able to perform unassisted, or with reasonable accommodation made by the employer, the following functions: • Establishes and maintains attorney calendar and deadline reminder systems; utilizes master calendar system., • Open new client matters, prepare new matter forms, set up client profiles and close files., • Types and preparation of letters, format pleadings, memoranda and other legal documents. Prepare expense reports., • E-filing court documents; familiar with local rules of Court, State and Federal Courts., • Ability to prepare and organize discovery, motions and other pleadings, including deposition notices and subpoenas. Trial/hearing binder creation, preparation of exhibits., • Ability to assist attorney with all aspects of managing cases through trial. Knowledge, Skills and Experience: • Minimum 2-3 years of legal secretary litigation and state and federal filing experience., • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)., • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written., • Solid drafting and proofreading skills., • Knowledge of legal terminology, legal documents and legal processes., • Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects and meet deadlines. About Firm: Attorneys: 8 partners, 2 associates Support Staff: each partner has a legal secretary, calendaring dept, med records dept, in-house IT dept • 9 secretaries, 1:1 ratio with attorneys, • 1 paralegal, • Majority of staff experienced, 5-10+ years
