Description This part-time position for an Occupational Therapy (OT) Clinical Supervisor is in Iona Universitys Speech Language and Hearing Clinic (SLHC) which is part of the Communication Sciences and Disorders department in the New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Nursing & Health Sciences. This position includes maintaining an OT caseload of both children and adults. Additionally the OT Clinical Supervisor position will collaborate with Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) supervisors and CSD student clinicians to create an interdisciplinary learning environment that prepares students for team-based clinical practice. The ideal candidate should have the ability to balance client care interprofessional collaboration and student-facing support while maintaining a high level of professionalism and compliance with clinical policies HIPAA requirements and ASHA-aligned best practices. collects and enters data as part of daily operations using an electronic health record (e.g. Digital Agency (DA), Electronic Medication Administration Records (eMAR). * Reviews and completes all other required paperwork and documentation to ensure compliance and/or billing completely, accurately and within appropriate timeframes (e.g., notifications, logging, incident reports, update files, maintenance requests, phone calls, and tracking of incidents). * Uses foundational teaching skills (Explain, Model, Observe and Evaluate [EMOE], task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications, etc.) and progressive teaching. * Understands behavior as communication and employs person-centered thinking to support positive interactions and prevent further escalation. * Complies with all Federal, State, Local and other relevant regulatory agency requirements, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). * Reports maintenance, upkeep and safety concerns observed at YAI facilities to Program Supervisor or appropriate designee. * Consults with program leadership, clinical and other direct support staff to ensure streamlined and top-quality care for individuals and attends and actively participates in team meetings. * Utilizes/demonstrates approved YAI and OPWDD training techniques (i.e. verbal, environmental, and physical interventions, including take downs) to respond timely and appropriately to challenging and/or self-injurious behavior, ensuring the health and safety of the people we support, self and others. * Provides coverage for other direct support staff as requested, which may include assisting at another YAI or off-site location (e.g. hospital) based on needs of program and/or individuals supported, including remaining on shift to ensure maintenance of minimum coverage levels for program. * May participate in the development of treatment plans. * For certain assignments, may be required to operate YAI motor vehicle to transport individuals to and/or from programs, residences, community or other locations on a daily (or other regular) basis with appropriate credentials. * Performs all other duties, as assigned. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Gathers sufficient information for each client to make a diagnostic assessment necessary to determine assignment priorities and treatment plan or referral to the treatment resources in the community., • Implements appropriate crisis services when needed to prevent decomposition and moves client toward an appropriate treatment plan and enhances adaptive functioning., • Shares information about the Agency and its services in order to help clients and other interested parties participate in treatment decisions, set appropriate goals and better understand the functions of the center., • Helps clients to become effective consumers of mental health and substance abuse services through information sharing, empowerment and transcendence of the stigma associated with those services., • Maintains client stability through a planned ongoing treatment relationship or assesses and helps implement changes in client functioning when indicated., • Regularly assesses with supervisor the progress of the client's treatment and is open to recommendations for improvement., • Assists clients in developing appropriate expectations from treatment., • Assists the client in understanding the need for cooperation with fee and insurance responsibilities by helping the client understand and resolve psychological and financial obstacles to payment., • Strengthens the ability of the client to understand and utilize therapy and find resources after treatment has ended through proper discharge planning and termination process., • Establishes and maintains appropriate and timely clinical case records, including, but not limited to, treatment plans, progress notes and treatment plan reviews, documenting appropriate therapeutic intervention with each client to the Agency, funding, licensing and billing authorities., • Exchanging information with other agencies that benefits the client, or ensures compliance with regulations and coordination of services., • Participates in all required internal and external meetings that appropriately represent the needs of the client and the Agency., • Utilizes and understands the value of supervision which increases practice skills, promotes better service for the client and preserves accountability to the Agency., • Supervises graduate and undergraduate students, when assigned, incorporating the needs of the client being serviced, the Agency, the education of the student and the University., • Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress, • Complete QI Training during onboarding and participate in QI refresher training as needed., • Ability to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views and experiences.
