The Role The Senior Manager of Food Quality, Safety & Sanitation is a critical member of the Senior Operations Team. Reporting directly to the COO, you are the final authority on food safety and quality within the facility. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team encompassing Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), and the Sanitation Department. This role requires a blend of technical mastery, regulatory expertise, and the leadership presence to ensure that "Food Safety First" is more than just a slogan—it’s how we operate every day. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for ensuring compliance, building strong processes, and driving a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The right candidate will be equally comfortable on the production floor and managing systems, documentation, and teams. Key Responsibilities Quality Assurance Leadership • FSMS Oversight: Develop, maintain, and evolve our Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) to ensure 100% compliance with FDA, USDA, and state regulations., • QA Programs: Own and manage all QA programs, including:, • HACCP plans, • Preventive Controls / FSMA compliance, • Allergen control programs, • GMP enforcement, • Risk Management & Investigations, • Investigate deviations, non-conformances, and customer complaints, • Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), • Documentation: Maintain all QA documentation, logs, and records, • Own all sanitation programs across production and facility, • Design and optimize daily and overnight sanitation schedules, • Ensure proper cleaning, chemical use, and verification processes, • Lead sanitation team hiring, training, and performance management, • Develop and enforce SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures), • Conduct ATP/allergen/environmental monitoring programs, • CAPA Leadership: Lead root cause analysis and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for any quality deviations or consumer complaints., • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments of new equipment, processes, and ingredients., • People Management: Lead and develop the FSQ and Sanitation teams, providing technical support and career mentorship., • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Production and Maintenance to integrate food safety protocols into daily operations without creating unnecessary bottlenecks., • Subject Matter Expertise: Stay current on evolving regulations and serve as the technical lead for labeling, allergen control, and R&D support for new products., • Food Safety Culture: Foster a company-wide culture of food safety, ensuring every employee understands their role in protecting the consumer., • Continuous Improvement:, • Identify gaps in food safety, sanitation, and quality systems, • Build scalable processes as the company grows, • Reduce waste, rework, and quality-related downtime, • Improve audit readiness and documentation systems Qualifications • Experience: 5+ years in food manufacturing QA/food safety leadership, and experience managing sanitation teams and programs., • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of FDA/USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP, and GFSI (specifically SQF) standards, as well as other specialty standards (e.g., GFFP, Kosher, GFCO), allergen control, and sanitation systems., • Audit experience (SQF, BRC, FDA, customer audits), • Strong leadership and communication skills, • Ability to work across multiple shifts as needed Compensation & Benefits • Competitive salary based on experience, • Health, dental, and vision insurance, • Simple IRA with company match, • Paid time off, • Growth opportunity in a scaling company Why Join the Nest?
