Job Description RED-Rochester is a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier to one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial parks: the Eastman Business Park. Supporting a 1,200-acre campus, RED-Rochester has the utilities, infrastructure, technical services, support services, space and complementary regional resources to benefit a wide range of industry verticals. We are seeking a Boiler/Refrigeration Operator who enjoys the challenge of solving problems that improve service to our customers. Our infrastructure consists of a blend of classic and modern industrial assets and requires a person with a mechanical and technical expertise – able to instruct and supervise others; able to manage both up and down the organization; able to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve success. Summary: This role is responsible for the operations and maintenance on RED’s industrial water, boilers, compressed air, and steam distribution systems within Eastman Business Park. This would include, but is not limited to starting and stopping equipment, making adjustments as needed to online units both manually and via the distributive controls system (DCS), and unloading chemicals used in water treatment and testing. This roles is required to follow and enforce company procedures to maintain a safe workplace and comply with regulatory requirements. Essential Duties and Responsibilities ► Perform routine boiler room, refrigeration and water treatment systems equipment inspections and performance including documentation of operational data, checking and adjusting of controls on equipment as necessary. ► Oversee the proper operation of the water treatment plant, boilers, turbines, and distribution systems with the shift operations teams, ensuring all teams adhere to the proper procedures & guidelines ► Assist with repairs as needed on all equipment and distribution systems piping. ► Conduct sampling and testing of chemical treatment systems including the unloading of bulk chemicals. ► Provide operating support for equipment shutdowns and startups including securing of equipment using standard LO/TO procedures. ► Assist with maintaining equipment in a clean and operable condition. ► Assist with the development and updates of standard operating procedures. ► Maintenance duties as needed including refrigerant handling, leak repair, pump packing adjustments, etc. ► Provide operating support for overhead distribution piping systems. ► Other duties as assigned such administrative, proper record keeping, inspections, etc. ► Must adhere to all safety protocols and regulations. This role is performed on a rotating shift assignment schedule. The rotation consists of two (2) days (6:00am – 6:00pm) then two nights (6:00pm to 6:00am) followed by four (4) days off. This is a non-exempt hourly position with overtime. The annual salary considering shift work, rotating schedule and overtime is estimated at $72,000 - $84,000 plus an annual Incentive Bonus target of 7%. The above-listed salary range is RED-Rochester, LLC’s good faith estimate of the annual salary it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting. Qualifications, Education and/or Experience desired: ► High school diploma/GED, 2 years of experience at lower-level operator/mechanic position, knowledge of refrigeration systems, cooling towers, water treatment plant, piping systems, building structures and steam turbines helpful. ► Proficient in MS Office ► Ability to learn various industrial software applications (Maximo, Compliant Pro, Tags Pro, Ovation, and Pi software). ► Ability to work with all levels of the organization. ► Need strong communication skills. ► Ability to learn DCS (distributive control systems), Ovation control systems for shift operations within a short period after hire. ► Must have a valid NYSDOT drivers’ license and proof of insurance. RED-Rochester will assist selected employees with obtaining the following licenses/certifications required for this position: ► City of Rochester S-3 Stationary Engineers License within 14 months after starting this position. ► City of Rochester R-4 Refrigeration Operators License within 18 months after starting this position. ► NYSDOH 2a Water Treatment Operator certification within 16 months after starting this position. ► US-EPA Refrigerant Handling Universal License within 12 months after starting this position. Work Environment ► Work may be under extreme weather conditions including hot and cold ambient temperatures. ► Incumbent will be required to travel between various buildings and work in plant environment where there is moderate noise levels. This role is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of piping, piping components, valves & supports for Steam, Compressed Air, Hydraulic Water, or Oil Systems across all facilities and buildings located within Eastman Business Park owned and operated by RED Rochester, LLC. Essential Duties: ► Maintain Clear and Consistent Communication relating to the current status, performance and needs of your assigned location with RED-Rochester team supervisor, maintenance planner and operations staff. The Chilled Water Plant Supervisor at RED Rochester is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and supervision of the site's complex chilled water systems. This includes six distinct chilled water loops: one 9°ree;F brine system, two 40°ree;F loops, one 43°ree;F loop, and two 45°ree;F loops. The Supervisor ensures the efficient and reliable production and distribution of chilled water across RED Rochester’s extensive campus, which supports a diverse range of industrial and commercial tenants. This role leads a team of skilled technicians and operators, collaborates with other utility and facility departments, and ensures strict compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
