Support adult neurosciences in providing clinical care to patients receiving operative and non-operative care for neurological conditions as a member of the Spine service. This position will include a mix of clinical (inpatient and outpatient) care. * Provide care to patients with acute and chronic illnesses encountered in the neurosurgical service (inpatient, emergency department, and clinics). * Oversee, collect and prepare patient clinical records, labs and imaging to optimize outpatient consultation in adult neurosurgery clinics. * Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients with acute, chronic and/or potential health problems. * Conduct and coordinate preoperative evaluations for patients proceeding to surgery. * Provide care to patients under the supervision of Drs. Fridley and Camara. This includes participation in daily rounds and collaborating with the neurosurgeons, fellow APPs, and other health care team members in the clinical evaluation and management of patients, as well as communicating the clinical management plan with members of the primary team or with consulting teams. * Evaluate patients in follow-up for routine post op care and manage complications related to surgery. Work in collaboration with faculty, residents, fellows, surgeons, and nursing staff to provide on-going inpatient and outpatient care and management. * Manage and direct communications between health care team and patients, their families and referring physicians. * Use available tools to track patient progress and coordinate care across the care continuum. * Possible involvement in assisting surgeries and procedures if properly qualified and certified for hospital privileges. * Participate in clinical trials investigating new neurological treatments as well as research projects for studying clinical quality, safety and outcomes. * Engage in analysis of clinical practice and identify opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency to improve value-based, high quality health care paradigms. * Attend and participate in meetings, committees and work groups in support of all duties, as needed. * Other related duties as assigned. * Participate in the education of nurses, APPs, medical students, residents and fellows through multidisciplinary case presentations and/or one-on-one clinical mentorship. * Participate in continuing clinical education to ensure continued certification and that clinical knowledge and skills are up to date and relevant for neurosurgical and neuroscience practices. For Nurse Practitioners: A master’s degree from accredited Nursing Program. Active RN and APNP license in State of Texas, in good standing, AND active board certification as an Acute Care NP. Or master’s degree from a Physician Assistant's training. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas, in good standing, AND active board certification as a PA. Or master’s degree from a Clinical Nurse Specialist training program. Current CNS license in the State of Texas, in good standing AND active board certification as an Acute Care CNS. Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability, and strong critical thinking skills. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and patients. Proficiency with using electronic medical record systems. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. The Dell Medical School is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to excellence within the learning health system. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. One or more years of experience in a neurosurgical or other related surgical practice. Experience with large research projects and clinical trials. RN First Assist training and certification needed for hospital privileges in assisting in surgery and procedures. Primary Responsibilities * Eligibility Verification & Prior Authorization Processing * Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through payer portals and internal systems to confirm active coverage and PA requirements. * Gather and review clinical documentation needed to establish medical necessity for test authorization. * Submit prior authorization requests through payer-specific platforms such as Glidian, Carelon, or Evicore, ensuring complete and accurate information. * Conduct timely follow-ups with payors to track authorization status, resolve discrepancies, and document all updates within the designated RCM systems. * Workflow Management & Documentation * Follow established workflows for eligibility and PA case management, ensuring adherence to quality and productivity metrics (≥90% accuracy). * Maintain centralized tracking for all authorization submissions and denials; escalate complex cases to Supervisors or Analysts when necessary. * Protect confidential information and comply with all HIPAA and PHI regulations. * Cross-Functional Collaboration * Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams across Billing, Order Entry, Claims, and Appeals. * Partner with vendor operations teams to oversee eligibility and authorization activities impacting the revenue cycle. * Coordinate with Quality and Compliance teams to ensure processes align with regulatory standards and payer requirements. * Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement * Track key outcomes related to prior authorization approvals, payment resolutions, and appeal performance. * Lead or contribute to weekly team meetings reviewing metrics, workflows, trends, and process improvement opportunities. * Research and interpret changes in payer utilization management policies and communicate updates to team members. * Develop and monitor project and implementation plans for new workflows, system enhancements, or payer policy updates. * Identify automation or technology enhancements that improve accuracy, turnaround time, and overall operational efficiency. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Strong proficiency with medical billing systems, insurance portals, and Microsoft Excel. * Understanding of medical terminology, CPT/HCPCS, ICD-10, modifiers, and UB revenue codes. * Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and produce clear, concise reports. * Strong critical-thinking, organization, and problem-solving skills; able to balance multiple priorities in a high-volume environment. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of conveying complex payer requirements clearly. * Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, with the ability to work independently. * Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information. * Knowledge of payer utilization management policies and familiarity with appeals and denials workflows. Qualifications * 3+ years of experience in medical billing, insurance collections, or revenue cycle operations. * 3+ years of direct experience in eligibility verification, prior authorization, and payer policy management. * Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience. * Experience using Glidian, payer portals, or comparable prior authorization submission tools strongly preferred. Job DescriptionDescription: *Must be local to Austin/ the surrounding area Pre-Authorization Specialist Job Purpose: The Pre-Authorization Specialist is a member of the Pre-Authorization Department who is responsible for verifying eligibility, obtaining insurance benefits, and ensuring pre-certification, authorization, and referral requirements are met prior to the delivery of outpatient and ancillary services. The Pre-Authorization Specialist provides detailed and timely communication to both payers and clinical partners in order to facilitate compliance with payer contractual requirements and is responsible for documenting the appropriate information in the patient's record. DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit levels to ensure adequate coverage for identified services prior to receipt., • Successfully works with payers via electronic/telephonic and/or fax communications., • Responsible for verification and investigation of pre-certification, predetermination, and referral requirements for services., • Determines medical necessity by reviewing the appropriate medical policies established for each insurance payer., • Collaborates with designated clinical contacts regarding encounters that require escalation to peer-to-peer review., • Communicates with patients, clinical navigators, financial counselors, and others as necessary to facilitate authorization process., • Facilitates submission of clean claims and reduction in payer denials by adhering to both organizational and departmental policies and procedures and maintaining departmental productivity and quality goals., • Appropriately prioritizes workload to ensure the most urgent cases are handled in a timely manner.
