Job Description The Goodwill Excel Center Adult High School is currently seeking an Administrative Assistant for our Norwood Campus, located at 1015 Norwood Park Blvd, Austin, TX 78753. The Goodwill Excel Center is the first free, public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin postsecondary education. There are seven campuses within the charter district. Two campuses are in Austin: one at the Goodwill Community Center and one in South Austin in partnership with American YouthWorks. POSITION SUMMARY: The Administrative Assistant provides front-line reception and general administrative support at the Henna Education Center. This role is the first point of contact for visitors, staff, and stakeholders, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. In addition to receptionist duties, the Administrative Assistant supports various clerical and administrative functions and may be assigned special projects or tasks as needed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Serve as the front desk representative for the school campus, welcoming and screening all visitors to maintain a safe and secure environment., • Provide access and support to enrolled students, staff, and approved non-school staff displaying proper identification., • Assist students, staff, and visitors by providing information or referrals related to job placement, workforce development, or continuing education opportunities, in alignment with Goodwill’s mission., • Answer and direct incoming phone calls and in-person inquiries to appropriate staff or departments., • Provide general information regarding enrollment, school events, campus activities, and Goodwill programs in a timely and professional manner., • Manage all incoming and outgoing mail, including sorting, distribution, and delivery., • Support the Student Experience Team during new student onboarding and orientation, including assistance with school applications, ID badge creation, and document preparation., • Perform a variety of clerical tasks, including document preparation, copying, scanning, and basic correspondence., • Supervise and provide guidance to student aides and/or interns as assigned., • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with team members, students, volunteers, and visitors to support campus operations. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Support campus outreach and community integration efforts, including participation in events that may occasionally occur in evenings or weekends., • Maintain strict confidentiality of all students and organizational information., • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and school policies, including those set by the State Board of Education and the local board., • Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions as scheduled., • Collaborate closely with the Student Experience and Operations teams to promote student success and an inclusive campus culture., • Crosstrain with the GCC Administrative Assistant to provide seamless coverage during absences or high-volume periods., • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the school and administrative office. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • High School Diploma or GED required, • Minimum of 1 year of experience in administrative support, customer service, or a related role—preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting., • Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written communication)., • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs), and standard office equipment., • Experience with or willingness to learn Student Information Systems (SIS) and other data entry platforms related to school operations., • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English., • Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to professionalism and tone., • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to shifting needs in a fast-paced school environment., • Team-oriented, dependable, and self-motivated, with a proactive approach to problem solving., • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive student or staff information., • Passionate about education equity and committed to the belief that all students can achieve high levels., • Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to accuracy in all work., • Understanding of how marginalization impacts those served and employed by Goodwill demonstrated respect for diversity of thought, culture, and lived experience., • Ability to cross-train and collaborate effectively with the GCC Administrative Assistant to provide coverage and continuity of service., • Must pass a criminal background check and complete fingerprinting as required by state law. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Proficiency in Arabic and/or other languages commonly spoken by our student population., • Experience working with high school students in urban, non-traditional, and/or adult education setting.
