Position Summary The General Superintendent provides overall leadership, direction, and accountability for all field operations across the companys construction projects. This roleis responsible forestablishingand enforcing field execution standards related to safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance. The General Superintendent directly oversees all Superintendents and serves as the primary field operations partner to the VP of Operations and Project Management team, ensuring consistent, disciplined project delivery. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Provide direct leadership, oversight, and accountability for all Superintendents and field personnel, • Establish, communicate, and enforce company-wide field operations standards, procedures, and best practices, • Ensure all projects are executedin accordance withapproved schedules, budgets, and construction plans, • Lead field planning efforts, including sitelogistics, work sequencing,manpowerplanning, and weekly look-ahead schedules, • Partner with Project Managers to align field execution with project cost, schedule, and contract requirements, • Serve as the primary escalation point for field-related issues, conflicts, or performance concerns, • Drive field productivity by setting clear expectations and holding Superintendents accountable for crew performance, • Oversee implementation of safety programs in coordination with the Safety Coordinator, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements, • Conduct regular site visits tomonitorprogress, safety performance, quality, and adherence to plans and specifications, • Participate in hiring, evaluating, coaching, and, when necessary, recommending disciplinary action or termination of field personnel, • Lead training and development of Superintendents and Foremen to improve leadership capability and execution consistency, • Ensure proper coordination between subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal teams, • Support project start-up, turnover, and closeout activities from a field operations perspective, • Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within field operations, • Perform other field leadership duties as assigned by the VP of Operations or Owner Qualifications • Minimum of 1015 years of experience in construction field operations, preferably in industrial or heavy commercial construction, • Proven experience leading Superintendents or large, multi-discipline field teams, • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and productivity drivers, • Demonstrated ability to enforce standards, address underperformance, and lead difficult conversations, • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts, • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills, • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, safety personnel, and executive leadership Required Certifications and Training • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification (required), • CPR / First Aid certification (required or obtainable upon hire), • Company-specific safety orientation and leadership training, • Additionalsupervisory or leadership training preferred Tools & Technology • Proficiencywith basic computer applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel), • Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or similar) preferred, • Ability to review andutilizedigital schedules, reports, and project documentation, • Company-provided communication devices and technology for field coordination Experience • Typically1015+ years of progressive field experience in construction, • Prior experience as a Superintendent on complex or large-scale projects, • Demonstratedtrack recordof successfully managing multiple projects or work fronts simultaneously, • Experience mentoring and developing field leadership personnel Physical Requirements • Frequent presence on active construction sites, • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders and stairs, and work in varying weather conditions, • Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the workday, • Must wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, steel-toe boots, and other site-specific PPE) Work Environment • Primarily field-based with time spent visiting multiple project sites, • Exposure to typical construction hazards, including heavy equipment, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions, • Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on project demands Supervision • Reports directly to the Vice President of Operations, • Provides direct supervision to all Superintendents and field personnel, • Works closely with Project Managers, Safety Coordinator, and Estimating/Preconstruction staff Safety Expectations • Actively lead and support the companys safety culture, • Ensure compliance with all company, client, and regulatory safety policies, • Participate in and lead safety meetings, site orientations, and incident reviews, • Empower Superintendents and Foremen toidentifyhazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist MarketSpecificExecution Requirements Water/Wastewater When assigned to water or wastewater projects, the General Superintendent supports field execution with heightened attention toprocessdrivenconstruction and regulatory compliance. These requirements supplementbut do not alterthe core responsibilities and authority of the role. • TieIns&Shutdowns:Establishstandards for planninghighriskshutdowns andtieins, including isolation verification, lockout/tagout coordination, contingency plans, and communication protocols with owner operations. Career Progression Successful performance in this role may lead to expanded operational leadership responsibilities, including Director of Field Operations or Vice President of Construction, as the company grows.
