American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Chandler, Arizona. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 03/23/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Mar 23, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma Center, • Primary assignment is the Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro Surgery) - a 32-bed unit; sister units include a 36-bed Medical Cardiac ICU and a 12-bed overflow ICU, with an expectation to float between all three, • Surgical ICU patient population includes Level 1 trauma (falls, GSWs, blunt trauma, MVAs) for patients 15+, ex-lap, craniotomy, specialty neurosurgery, CVA, post-tPA, COVID, sepsis, and ARDS, • Medical Cardiac ICU patient population includes sepsis, COVID, CRRT, DKA, ARDS, vascular surgeries, on/off-pump CABG, valve surgeries, post-cath, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem Heart, and esophagectomies, • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1, • RNs are required to titrate drips including propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, and insulin, • RNs must independently interpret cardiac monitor strips; no monitor techs on unit - GE monitors used, • RT equipment includes Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s BiPAP, and Airvo ventilators, • Charting is done in Cerner, • 12-hour day shifts, • Self-scheduling with manager balancing as needed for unit needs, • Weekend requirement is 3 shifts per 4-week schedule; day shift weekends are Saturday–Sunday, • May be floated to a telemetry unit at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio as needed; travelers are first to float, • No additional on-call or standby shifts required, • Navy scrubs requiredRequirements, • Active AZ RN license or compact (NLC) license currently in hand; pending licenses are not accepted, • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted, • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required - no exceptions, • Experience must include either neuro or CV ICU background, • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; maximum of 2 attempts allowed, • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify eligibility), • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire, • Copy of driver's license required for consideration, • Candidates may not have been directly employed full time, part time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered)Additional Information, • Responsibilities include critical care management of complex trauma, neuro, and cardiac surgery patients, including titration of vasoactive and sedation drips and independent cardiac rhythm interpretation, • Intensivist and RT are available in the ICU 24/7; charge nurses do not take patients, • Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be conducted during orientation, • Unit-specific orientation is 1–2 days, • A pass/fail Simulation Lab assessment on sterile technique (Foley insertion and central line dressing changes) is conducted on Day 1 of orientation, • Candidates who fail the Relias Dysrhythmia exam or Sim Lab on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit Arizona positions for 6 months, • One holiday off may be permitted per assignment, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply; 3 years of total experience is required, with at least 2 of those years in the ICU, • Level 1 trauma or neuro-specific experience is preferred but not required With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
