Job DescriptionDescription: The Director of Operations reports to the Executive Director. This position assists the Executive Director in the overall management and supervision of the Center and oversees the day to day operations of the facility including engineering, maintenance, event coordination, housekeeping, security, life safety, and regulatory compliance. The Director of Operations ensures effective coordination of all operational units and supports the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the Center. Responsibilities include conducting operations planning meetings, counseling and advising operational supervisory personnel, directing long range operational planning, coordinating interdepartmental activities, developing and implementing operating procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with safety, insurance, and authorization requirements, carrying out executive directives, and performing such other duties as required by the Executive Director. Primary Responsibilities Executive Leadership and Governance • Assist the Executive Director in the overall operational leadership and management of the Center., • Carry out executive directives in a timely and professional manner., • Demonstrate accountability, follow through, and sound judgment in all assigned responsibilities., • Assist the Executive Director with fiscal planning, budget preparation, administrative activities, and special projects as assigned., • Assist the Executive Director and Director of Business Analytics in event settlements and post event operational review., • Coordinate and assist supervisory personnel in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and training Center employees according to established guidelines., • Supervise, organize, and assign day to day work responsibilities to operational staff to ensure accountability and timely completion., • Provide ongoing counseling, advising, and professional guidance to operational supervisory personnel to support performance and development., • Ensure proper supervision and enforcement of personnel policies, standards of conduct, safety requirements, and collective bargaining agreements., • Oversee day to day facility operations including engineering, maintenance, housekeeping, security, life safety, and regulatory compliance., • Develop, review, recommend, and implement day to day operational policies and procedures consistent with organizational standards and executive direction., • Direct and participate in long range operational planning to support facility needs, service delivery, and organizational objectives., • Meet with clients, promoters, and event stakeholders to determine event requirements and operational logistics., • Design and draft layouts for banquets, meetings, exhibits, conventions, and concerts as required., • Coordinate and oversee event setups, changeovers, technical requirements, and stage calls to ensure smooth and orderly events., • Exercise sound professional judgment regarding on site presence during high impact, high visibility, or concurrent events., • Ensure facility readiness prior to event openings including staffing, safety checks, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance., • Ensure event related services, vendor requirements, and promoter obligations are met efficiently and in a cost effective manner consistent with organizational standards., • Identify, address, and ensure timely resolution of safety, fire code, building code, and regulatory compliance issues., • Ensure staff are knowledgeable of all safety regulations, emergency preparedness protocols, and evolving evacuation procedures., • Review, recommend, and ensure execution of departmental expenditures and approved operational purchases within budgeted funds., • Conduct operational and supervisory level meetings to ensure safe, compliant, and effective execution of events and daily operations., • Maintain high standards of professionalism, customer service, and responsiveness with patrons, staff, vendors, and public officials., • Ability to be present on site during events and operational activities as required., • Ability to stand throughout an entire shift and to reach, bend, stoop, lift, carry, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, walk, push, pull, and grasp., • Ability to exert up to 100 to 200 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds of force frequently including carrying items upstairs and service corridor ramps., • Ability to work a flexible and irregular schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays., • Minimum five years’ experience in a responsible administrative or operational leadership capacity within a major convention center, arena, stadium, or comparable multipurpose facility., • Demonstrated knowledge of facility operations including engineering, event operations, housekeeping, security, safety, and regulatory compliance., • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, judgment, and accountability skills., • Ability to follow executive direction and manage complex operational environments., • Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis in business, engineering, management, or related field preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
