Job DescriptionSalary: DOE JOB DESCRIPTION Service Tech - Level 3 Position Title: Service Technician Division: Projects / Business Development Department: Service Department Direct Report: Service Manager FLSA Status: Exempt POSITION SUMMARY AND PURPOSE: Ensure that service standards are maintained per the instruction and work load provided by the Service Manager. Typical tasks include install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel and natural gas generators and engines ranging from 20 kW up to 2500 kW. Responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, diagnosing and providing quality repairs of electrical generator systems and related engine mechanical failures. Equipment brands include Caterpillar, Multiquip, Hi-Power, Kohler, Cummins, Generac, Olympian, etc. Candidate must have good people skills, be proactive and enthusiastic personality. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIESmay include, but are not limited to: Perform basic preventative maintenance and assists others in performing intermediate and advanced corrective maintenance tasks Uses basic knowledge of engine / generator mechanical and electrical operation to perform tasks or assist other Replaces belts and hoses; changes and/or tops off oil and filters Properly and completely fills out all service reports, PM checklists and timecards within department guidelines; Ensures they are legible and accurate with sufficient detail for service accounting needs Works on a flexible work schedule 24x7x365 and responds to emergency calls as needed Works in a neat, orderly, and safe manner, constantly seeking to improve methods and promote the safety of others Obtains pre-assigned work orders by schedule date, customer name, service level and locate / load parts, check for any special instructions; Performs scope of work, provides detailed computerized template report and time card upon work assignment completion for daily accountability Performs advanced troubleshooting and maintenance, manages others in performing intermediate and advanced corrective maintenance tasks Proficiently and accurately evaluate, test, diagnose and troubleshoot basic through advanced problems on gas or diesel engines and generators; Give recommendations for and make associated repairs Communicate, plan, complete, and document all troubleshooting and repair procedures within standard repair times Performs Load bank testing with full understanding of both Reactive/Resistive testing Performs block heaters and installs battery chargers Performs advanced troubleshooting and corrective maintenance; and assists or leads others in performing intermediate and advanced troubleshooting and corrective maintenance tasks on engines, generators and other associated mechanical and electrical equipment Performs control panel conversions, re-tapping generator ends, and isolating / replacing faulty breakers Sets up, starts and operates equipment as directed both in-house and at customer locations Occasionally supports sales team on sales calls and bid preparation Maintain thorough knowledge of and actively practice and promote safe working activities in accordance with OSHA, EPA and other required regulations dealing with safe operation of all equipment Prepare various reports as directed to maintain accurate records on equipment and preventive maintenance Performs advanced troubleshooting and corrective maintenance; and directs / leads others in performing intermediate and advanced predictive, troubleshooting and -corrective maintenance tasks on engines, generators and other associated mechanical and electrical equipment Communicates with customers as necessary to insure strong relationships are maintained Serves in a lead role to train lower level Technicians in preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance as well as the proper and safe way to perform all tasks that have risk of accident or injury Occasionally supports sales team on sales calls and bid preparation REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Desired Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED or equivalent years of relevant experience and/or training Graduation from Technician/Maintenance training program highly preferred Minimum 5+ Years Experience with Generator Set and Engine Repair Person must be reliable, able to pass a drug test, have a valid Texas driver license and good clean driving record Must demonstrate knowledge of diesel and gas drive power generation equipment or have some experience in related or similar industries and/or training, preferably with a technical background Drivers License and passport required Maintains service vehicle(s) in a clean and good operational condition. Computer Skills: Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, web based software, etc. ET/SIS/SIS Web/ STW Experience Required LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, procedures, and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and other employees of the organization. Work Environment: Well-lighted, outdoor and indoor shop / warehouse setting with fumes or airborne particles. Work near moving mechanical parts Air contamination (i.e., dust, fume, smoke, toxic conditions, disagreeable odors) Risk of electrical shock Very Loud (examples: metal manufacturing, large earth-moving equipment, large engines) Typical schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 with occasionally after hours dependent upon work load Occasional overnight travel by land and/or air, international and domestic Physical Ability Requirements: Extensive physical activity performing strenuous daily activities primarily technical in nature. Must be able to exert more than 75 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, pull, or otherwise move objects. Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms Bending legs downward and forward by bending leg and spine Moving about on foot to accomplish task, particularly for long distances Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, working on and around heavy equipment.
