Job DescriptionSpecial Education Classroom Teacher – Science, Art & ElementaryJob Type: Direct Hire (Full-time, Regular) Salary Range: $60,000-$101,000 annually (commensurate with experience and education) Location: Yonkers, NY | On-site Schedule: 10-month school year + 6-week summer program (both required) Positions Available: Multiple openings in Science, Art, and Elementary Job OverviewMadison Approach Staffing has been engaged by our client, a therapeutic educational program serving children with special needs, to identify and vet exceptional teachers for multiple classroom positions. As a Classroom Teacher, you will provide individualized instruction based on IEP goals and objectives aligned with New York State Learning Standards while developing students' social skills in a structured, therapeutic environment. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including milieu therapists, social workers, parents, and other professionals dedicated to each child's education and treatment success. This year-round position includes both the 10-month school year and 6-week summer program. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with students with emotional disturbances and learning disabilities in a supportive, team-based setting. Key Responsibilities • Provide direct, individualized instruction in Science, Art, or Elementary subjects based on students' IEP goals and New York State Learning Standards, • Plan instruction to meet diverse learning styles and needs of students with emotional disturbances (ED) and learning disabilities (LD), • Review and update IEPs quarterly; complete daily computer logs and participate in Planning Conferences, • Issue report cards and ensure all educational paperwork is completed timely (daily logs, conference reports, incident reports), • Maintain classroom discipline and safety using therapeutic approaches; demonstrate competence with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), • Supervise all paraprofessional staff assigned to classroom, • Collaborate with milieu therapists/assistants, social workers, parents, and other professionals, • Use program data (academic testing scores, treatment planning reports, case histories) to inform instructional decisions, • Remain flexible and accommodating in unplanned or crisis situations, • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural backgrounds of children, families, and co-workers, • Participate in weekly staff conferences (3:00pm-5:00pm one day per week), • Design out-of-class experiences to add relevance to curriculumRequired Skills & Experience, • NYS Teaching Certification: Elementary OR grades 7-12 (ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies) required at time of hire, • Special Education Extension: Must be obtained within 2 years of hire (employer will support professional development), • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education required; Master's degree preferred (impacts salary placement), • IEP Knowledge: Understanding of IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring, • Therapeutic Approaches: Ability to implement program modifications for ED/LD students; understanding of suicide assessment, intervention, and adverse medication reactions, • Cultural Competency: Sensitivity working with diverse populations and commitment to trauma-informed practice, • Supervision: Willingness to supervise paraprofessional staff in classroom, • Technology: Proficiency with electronic systems including ADP app on smartphone/device, • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, kneel, and lift up to 30 lbs; must successfully complete TCI training including written/verbal testing and physical restraint evaluation, • Availability: Year-round commitment to both 10-month school year AND 6-week summer program (not optional), • Transportation: Reliable transportation for occasional travel (10%)Preferred Skills & Experience, • Special Education Extension already in hand, • Previous teaching experience in special education or therapeutic settings, • Experience with students with emotional disturbances and/or learning disabilities, • Training in trauma-informed practices, • Experience supervising paraprofessional staff, • Bilingual abilities (particularly Spanish)Work Schedule & BenefitsSchedule:, • Daily Hours: 8:30am-3:30pm (one day per week: 8:30am-5:00pm for staff conference), • School Year: 10 months (required), • Summer Program: 6 weeks (required), • Therapeutic educational setting with multidisciplinary team supportComprehensive Benefits Package:, • Generous PTO: Holidays, personal days, and sick time, • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance, • 401(k) with employer contributions, • Tuition reimbursement for continuing education and Special Education Extension coursework, • Flex Spending Accounts, • Employer-paid Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance, • Professional development opportunitiesTo Apply: Please submit your resume and cover letter indicating your subject area preference (Science, Art, or Elementary) and timeline for obtaining Special Education Extension if not already certified.
