American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN OR - Operating Room for a travel nursing job in Tacoma, Washington. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: OR - Operating Room, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 40 hours per week, • Shift: 10 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 4x10hrs, • Hours: 40 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 20, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • 20-room OR complex within a hospital setting, including 4 CVOR suites, 1 hybrid endo/vascular room, 12 main general ORs, and outpatient suites serving women's health and minor ortho, • CVOR case volume includes approximately 10 CABGs and 3 TAVRs per week, plus open thoracotomies, valve repairs, AV fistulas, fem-pop bypasses, and open/endoscopic AAA repairs, • General OR cases include neuro (EVD placement, shunts), ortho (total joints, ORIF), trauma (GSW, MVA), emergency general (appys, torsions), GYN, GI, and GU, • Robotics cases (GYN, general, urology) are performed on the Da Vinci Xi and are scheduled as 12-hour shifts, • RNs are expected to scrub and/or circulate; surgical techs also scrub, • CVOR RNs are expected to float to general surgery, • Main OR travelers are assigned to trauma call unless they have a strong CVOR or pediatric skillset, • Trauma call: approximately 3 shifts per 6-week schedule (0700–1900 or 1900–0700), • Heart call (CVOR): 1 shift per week and 1 weekend per 6-week schedule (Mon–Thu nights 1700–0700; Fri 1500–Mon 0700), • Pediatric call: 1 shift per week and 1 weekend per 6-week schedule (Mon–Thu nights 1700–0700; Fri 1700–Mon 0700), • Scheduled shifts are 10 or 12 hours; shift times include 0645–1715, 0645–1915, evening 1045–2315, and nights 1845–0715 or 2245–0715, • EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: PyxisRequirements, • Active WA RN license or compact RN license currently in hand (pending license with proof of application may be accepted), • BLS certification required, • Minimum 1 year of OR experience required, • Proficiency with Da Vinci robotic system is required — this is a non-negotiable requirement, • Ability to scrub and/or circulate, • Top preferred service line strengths: general surgery robotics, general OR, and ortho (trauma and neuro experience also valued), • Day shift candidates do not need all specialty experience, though it is preferred; night shift candidates should be comfortable with neuro (craniotomies), heavy trauma, emergency general cases, blood administration (Belmont/intraoperative blood salvage), arterial lines, and wound vacs, • 30-minute on-call response time required, • Two professional references from a supervisor or above (charge nurse, manager, director) required prior to start; one reference is sufficient for initial considerationAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply with strong OR experience, • Orientation consists of 1–2 days of general hospital orientation followed by one full shift on the unit; additional position-specific orientation days may be assigned based on an individual assessment, • A Traveler Telemetry Competency exam is required and must be completed and passed prior to start, • RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support available 24/7, • Unit culture is described as dynamic and collaborative, with engaged leadership, an open-door policy, and a strong focus on safety, process improvement, and work-life balance, • No transplant, burn, or adult ophthalmology cases; pediatric experience is not required and candidates are not expected to scrub peds, • Scrubs are provided by the facility, • Free parking in an on-site parking garage, • No phones permitted on the unit With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
