Job Description Senior Business Systems Analyst (BSA) — (WA State Only) Summary We are seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst who is equally strong in business requirements gathering (primary) and hands-on SQL / reporting (secondary). This role is business-facing, working closely with internal stakeholders to capture requirements, build ad hoc reports, support existing dashboards, and partner on enterprise reporting initiatives. The analytics organization is transitioning over the next two years to a self-service BI model, with semantic layers and canonical dashboards. The ideal hire is an 80% BSA / 20% technical analyst who can operate in today's ticket-based environment while helping shape tomorrow’s self-service future. This is a Washington-state–resident role only. Core Responsibilities Primary (60%) — Business Requirements & Stakeholder Engagement • Serve as the front-facing analyst working directly with business owners to gather, refine, and document reporting requirements., • Manage ticket life cycle from intake → dev → QA → UAT → release., • Translate business needs into user stories, acceptance criteria, and reporting deliverables., • Collaborate with business partners across the organization (operations, compliance, HCA-driven reporting, membership, HRA reporting initiatives)., • Manage deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume reporting environment., • Perform simple to moderate SQL pulls (e.g., membership, claims, procedure code lookups, joining membership → claims → procedure code tables)., • Export and shape ad hoc datasets (CSV/Excel) for business consumption., • Understand data structures within the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) and how datasets relate. Tertiary (20%) — BI Development & Dashboard Support • Support updates to existing Tableau dashboards and workbooks (75% of workload today)., • Build simple dashboards or components aligned to the new canonical dashboard strategy., • Participate in the long-term transformation toward self-service BI (semantic layers, standardized metrics, governed dashboards). Must-Have • 3–4+ years of healthcare experience (not the 7 years listed in the old JD)., • Weighted at ~20% importance per Russell., • Strong business requirements gathering & communication skills., • Ability to manage multiple tasks and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment., • SQL proficiency sufficient for moderate data pulls and validation., • Experience working with business users, managing expectations, and delivering reporting outputs., • Ability to partner effectively with developers, QA, and cross-functional teams., • Tableau dashboard building experience (helpful but not mandatory)., • Experience with Jeeva (very small component — not required)., • Case management or claims experience., • Background in Medicaid, HCA reporting, HRA reporting, or regulatory data cycles. (Directly based on Russell’s comments) • Comfortable in high-workload, high-velocity environments., • Strong communicator who is composed and confident in business-facing conversations., • Team-oriented, collaborative, low-ego., • Able to handle shifting priorities and multiple open tickets., • Problem-solver who can work independently without micromanagement., • Reports to Lead BSA and collaborates with:, • 2 other BSAs, • 3 Developers (plus Lead Developer Neeti), • QA Team (separate organization), • Works across business lines to fulfill compliance reporting and operational BI needs., • Supports HCA submissions, quarterly updates, dashboard enhancements, and ad hoc requests.
