Overview: The Machining Department Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all facets in the machining department and work centers, including (but not limited to): the development of policies and procedures, short and long term goals, managing the budget for the department (including payroll, approval of overtime, and raises), establishing department training needs, safety of all team members, client compliance, being the liaison between machining and other departments, and promoting Athena's Code of Values and Motto. The Machine Shop manager also directly manages and supervises all departmental staff, including but not limited to: the recruitment and hiring process, reporting of termination, performing disciplinary action when necessary, conducting timely employee performance reviews and coaching sessions, reviewing times sheets and approve hours for payroll, and supporting employees to become the best versions of themselves. Key Responsibilities: (include but not limited to): Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following: • Maintain and promote safe working habits and clean work area (6S-Lean Manufacturing)., • Coordinate staff to ensure they are knowledgeable in all safety practices, possible health hazards and precautionary measures., • Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline processes and improvement measures to increase efficiency, quality, and performance., • Establish short- and long-range plans and goals and communicate monthly goals and metrics., • Facilitate department activities and team members to ensure effective work production and goals are met for sales, profit, quality, delivery, safety and morale., • Communicate and coordinate department projects and activities to management and other departments., • Develop, revise and ensure compliance with Safety and Quality Management operating procedures., • Lead department efforts in new tooling, new machining process exploration, and process improvement., • Cultivate talent by creating development paths for team members to guide in their career goals., • Conduct mandatory employee performance reviews and coaching sessions within a timely manner, within 30 days of due date. (90-day, quarterly coaching and then annually)., • Review and approve team member's personnel actions, timesheets and requests for leave., • Establish and manage department training needs and ensure customer and quality compliance., • Schedule facility and equipment maintenance activities., • Maintain accurate inventory and job cost control., • Serve as the liaison between machining and other departments., • Participate and attend required meetings, business development efforts, and audits., • Pursue continuous personal growth in leadership skills, manufacturing trends, and breadth of developments and innovation in the manufacturing field., • Perform other jobs or functions assigned by upper management. Qualifications: Minimum Preferred Qualifications, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following: • High School Diploma or GED, in addition to;, • a minimum of (4) years of continuing education*, and, • a minimum of (10) years of related work experience PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Essential physical requirements pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, include and are not limited to the following: • Strength — (Heavy)- Exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects., • Movement- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, twisting, bending, • Auditory- talking and hearing, • Vision-near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision, field of vision, • Environment conditions and physical surroundings-noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions PREFERRED TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGY: • Personal Computers, comfortable with technology, • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), • Enterprise Resource Program (ERP) Software-M2M and Shop Floor Manager, • HR Management Software (SAGE) REQUIRED WORK CLOTHING AND PPE: Attire should not interfere with job performance or safety. • Attire should not interfere with job performance or safety., • Safety glasses are provided by Athena, • Closed toe safety shoes are required At Athena Manufacturing, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of continuous improvement through the principles of 2 Second Lean.
