Job Description Reports To: Director Of Operations Classification: Full-Time Location: Field-Based About the Role SpecRite Refrigeration is hiring an Installer who can build, not just assist. This is a hands-on position for someone who knows how to plumb, weld, set cases, run pipe, and get an installation done right from start to finish. You’ll be on job sites building new refrigeration systems for grocery stores, convenience stores, and other commercial accounts. We’re looking for someone with an entrepreneurial attitude who takes ownership of their work without needing to be micromanaged. The kind of person who looks at the job site and thinks “what needs to happen next” instead of waiting to be told. If you take pride in clean installations, tight brazes, and leaving a job site better than you found it, you’ll fit right in. If you’re just looking to collect hours, look elsewhere. What You’ll Do • Set & Trim Cases: Receive, uncrate, position, level, and align refrigerated display cases. Install end panels, trim kits, bumper rails, LED lighting, night covers, and shelving per manufacturer specs., • Plumbing & Drain Work: Install and route condensate drain lines for cases, walk-ins, and ice machines, etc. Ensure proper pitch, trap placement, and insulation per code. Troubleshoot and clear blockages., • Brazing & Welding: Perform oxy-acetylene brazing on copper and copper-to-steel joints under nitrogen purge. Execute clean, leak-free brazes that hold up under pressure testing., • Piping: Fabricate and install copper refrigerant lines (suction, liquid, hot gas). Follow proper sizing for velocity and oil return, install traps and risers, and insulate per energy code., • Pressure Testing & Evacuation: Perform nitrogen pressure tests on completed piping, pull deep vacuum, and assist with system charging and startup., • Walk-In Construction: Assemble walk-in cooler and freezer panels, install doors, hardware, strip curtains, and associated components., • General Installation Support: Hang unit coolers, mount condensing units, set compressor racks, run electrical whips, and handle material staging and logistics on-site., • Jobsite Accountability: Keep your work area clean and organized. Protect store fixtures and merchandise. Communicate with the Lead Technician on progress, material needs, and any issues that come up. Requirements • Minimum 2 years of experience in commercial refrigeration installation or a related mechanical trade (HVAC, plumbing, pipefitting)., • Demonstrated ability to braze copper under nitrogen purge with clean, pressure-tested results., • Hands-on experience setting and trimming refrigerated display cases., • Working knowledge of condensate drain routing, pitch requirements, and trap placement., • Ability to read and follow installation drawings, submittals, and floor plans., • Comfortable with hand and power tools including tube cutters, swaging tools, flaring tools, levels, torches, and rigging equipment., • EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal preferred; Type I minimum)., • Valid driver’s license with clean record., • Ability to lift 75 lbs., work from ladders, and handle physically demanding conditions including rooftops and extreme temperatures., • Willingness to travel to job sites within the service territory, including overnight stays for out-of-town projects., • Ability to operate scissor lift and forklift. Preferred • Experience with grocery store or Dollar General, Kroger refrigeration buildouts., • Brazing or welding certification (AWS or equivalent)., • Familiarity with Hussmann, Hill Phoenix, Tyler, or Zero Zone equipment., • Walk-in cooler/freezer panel assembly experience., • Basic electrical knowledge (running whips, wiring condensing units, connecting to disconnects).
