Job Description Summary The Field Service & Site Execution Manager is a hybrid leadership and individual-contributor role responsible for leading SSI’s field service execution and on-site electrical/controls installation oversight for automation projects. This role manages SSI field technicians and directs third-party installation partners at customer sites to ensure work is executed safely, to specification, on schedule, and with strong quality discipline. This individual serves as SSI’s on-site execution leader for electrical and controls scope during installation, qualification, turnover, troubleshooting, and early operational support. The role requires strong technical depth in industrial controls and electrical systems, combined with practical field leadership, subcontractor coordination, customer-facing communication, and disciplined documentation. This is a player-coach role. In addition to leading field execution, the Field Service & Site Execution Manager is expected to contribute directly in the field during critical activities, issue resolution, startup support, installation troubleshooting, quality checks, and customer escalation situations. Key Responsibilities 1. Site Execution Leadership • Serve as SSI’s primary on-site leader for electrical and controls installation execution on assigned projects., • Oversee day-to-day site activities for SSI field resources and third-party installation partners., • Drive installation readiness, workface planning, tactical coordination, constraint removal, and execution follow-through., • Ensure work is performed according to released drawings, approved methods, project schedules, and customer/site requirements., • Coordinate field execution with project management, engineering, procurement, customers, general contractors, and other trades. 2. Third-Party Installation Partner Oversight • Direct and oversee subcontracted electrical installation partners performing SSI-scoped work., • Validate partner understanding of drawings, scope boundaries, priorities, install sequencing, and quality expectations., • Monitor workmanship, productivity, staffing levels, schedule adherence, punch list closure, and field issue response., • Escalate performance gaps quickly and drive corrective actions when subcontractor execution is below expectation., • Verify installation aligns with SSI standards, customer requirements, and approved design intent. 3. Field Service Team Leadership • Lead and support SSI field service technicians and site specialists assigned to projects or post-install service work., • Establish expectations for troubleshooting discipline, reporting, documentation, customer conduct, and closeout quality., • Help develop standard work, service methods, checklists, and repeatable field processes that reduce risk and rework., • Support hiring input, onboarding, coaching, and performance feedback for field service personnel. 4. Technical Field Support / Individual Contribution • Personally support critical field activities such as: • electrical and controls troubleshooting, • panel inspections and field quality checks, • install verification and point-to-point validation, • power-up and I/O checkout support, • field modifications and corrective action planning, • startup, qualification, and turnover readiness • Step into high-risk or high-visibility issues when technical leadership is required., • Provide practical direction on panel work, device installation, network layout, controls hardware, and electrical implementation details. 5. Installation Quality, Qualification, and Turnover • Lead SSI’s field quality discipline for electrical and controls installation., • Ensure redlines, as-builts, issue logs, checklists, quality records, and field documentation are maintained accurately., • Coordinate internal qualification activities including verification of: • proper component installation, • cable terminations, • panel readiness, • network connectivity, • device installation, • I/O checks, • power distribution readiness • Support preparation of qualification packages, turnover documentation, and final field closeout deliverables., • Drive punch list closure before customer turnover and minimize downstream rework. 6. Site Coordination and Customer Interface • Act as a key point of contact with customers, site operations, GC teams, and partner trades during site execution., • Communicate field status clearly, including progress, risks, blockers, recovery actions, and change impacts., • Participate in daily site meetings, coordination meetings, pre-task planning, and turnover readiness reviews., • Build trust through calm, direct communication and credible technical leadership., • Identify emerging customer needs, service opportunities, and field risks and communicate them back to project leadership. 7. Safety and Compliance Support • Enforce SSI field expectations around safe execution, LOTO, PPE, energized work practices, stopwork authority, and worksite discipline., • Coordinate field teams and partners to comply with customer and GC site safety requirements., • Support project-specific EHS plans, pre-task plans, and safe work execution., • Partner with designated safety personnel on projects requiring dedicated on-site safety management., • Immediately escalate unsafe conditions, code/licensing concerns, or unauthorized work. 8. Pre-Mobilization and Field Planning Support • Contribute to installation planning before site mobilization, including: • labor planning, • subcontractor alignment, • tools/equipment planning, • access and badge readiness, • temporary power coordination inputs, • work package readiness, • material receipt and staging strategy • Review constructability and identify likely field execution risks before install begins., • Provide field-driven input to engineering and project teams to improve installability and reduce site churn. Required Qualifications • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation, electrical installation, controls field execution, commissioning, or field service in complex industrial environments., • 3+ years of experience leading field teams, subcontractors, or site execution activities., • Strong experience reading and applying: • electrical schematics, • panel drawings, • device layouts, • network drawings, • installation packages • Strong field knowledge of industrial controls and electrical systems, including PLC-based automation environments., • Ability to manage subcontractors and hold standards for safety, quality, schedule, and documentation., • Ability to troubleshoot field execution issues logically and drive practical solutions under schedule pressure., • Strong written and verbal communication skills with customers, field teams, and internal stakeholders., • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to project sites. Preferred Qualifications Controls / Platforms • Experience in material handling, parcel, distribution, or warehouse automation environments., • Experience with Rockwell-based systems; Siemens and other platforms are a plus., • Experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procure, or equivalent., • Exposure to commissioning, qualification, turnover, and startup support processes., • Experience working with third-party electrical contractors on large industrial projects., • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical, redlines, as-builts, and field-driven document feedback., • OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, and LOTO training/certification., • Experience on Amazon, UPS, or other large multi-trade industrial deployment sites. Certifications / Training • LOTO (required), • NFPA 70E training/certification (required or obtain within X days—your call), • OSHA 10 (recommended; OSHA 30 preferred) Work Environment & Physical Requirements • Customer industrial sites: moving equipment, noise, elevated platforms, varying temperatures., • Must be able to carry typical field equipment (up to ~50 lbs), climb ladders/stairs, and stand/walk extended periods., • Professionalism and customer satisfaction mindset required. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional journals, and blueprints. Ability to write reports and documentation. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
