Job DescriptionDescription: Job Overview Responsible to the Director of Donation Center Operations. Retail Associate will be responsible for greeting customers and determining what each customer wants/needs. Describe merchandise and explain use/operation and merchandise to customers. Build relationships with customers and recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on customer needs and desires. Compute sales prices, total purchases, and receive/process cash or credit payments. Have current knowledge of what is “fashionable” and/or “trendy”. Have a knowledge base of current designers and products. Maintain knowledge of all sales, as well as policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices. Responsibilities and Duties • Accept and sort donated merchandise., • Use of sales equipment., • Ability to respond effectively to changing demands., • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products., • Problem solver., • Carry merchandise into the stores and stocking shelves., • Greet customers/donors in a friendly manner at all times., • Maintain a clean, orderly, and visually attractive store and processing areas., • Work harmoniously with staff, volunteers, and community partners., • Respond to phone calls/messages and email messages., • Requires working on Tuesday - Saturdays. Hours and days may adjust based on store needs., • Coordinates, maintains paperwork, and directs the activities of store volunteers., • Responsible for daily closeout of the cash register and credit card sales, counting the till daily and balancing it with the sales reports., • Produces communication materials for the store including signage and social media content., • Coordinates community service volunteers and tracks their required hours for reporting purposes., • Ability/willingness to perform other positions within the donation center, boutique and thrift operation., • Performs other duties related to the position as assigned. Accountability: Areas in which the position is accountable/responsible: • Records: Record and reconcile daily sales/transactions that occur at the thrift store., • Volunteers: Record all community volunteer hours and paperwork. Supervision Responsibility: • Supervises volunteers. Requirements: Education/Training/Experience • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate), • Previous work-related skill, knowledge, and/or experience in sales/inventory/relationship management. Certification or Licensing Requirements • Valid Florida driver’s license, acceptable Motor Vehicle Report, active driving insurance, and dependable transportation is required. Two years driving experience is required., • Requires 24-hour FCADV Core Competency training and additional 6-hours (30-hours total) to qualify for privilege status., • Requires on-going 16-hours of Domestic Violence related training after the first year. Specialized equipment or machines used in the course of the duties of the position: • Cash register and computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office and spreadsheet software. Physical Demands • Standing for an extended amount of time; including, but not limited to 6-8 hour time periods., • Requires up to 50 lbs. to be lifted., • Walking, standing, using hands, stooping/kneeling and reaching are required in the course of job duties., • Noise level is moderate., • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to focus., • The work environment of this position is that of a retail store and/or warehouse with a normally moderate noise level. The warehouse and a portion of the store are not air-conditioned, so employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this job in both air-conditioned and un-air-conditioned spaces., • Requires working on Tuesday - Saturdays. Hours and days may adjust based on store needs., • Must have ability to lead with confidence and minimal supervision., • Requires good communication skills, both written and oral., • Must have an understanding of domestic violence issues., • Discretion in dealing with confidential material, flexibility and tolerance for others is required., • High ethical and professional standards, sound judgement and ability to function independently are required., • Must be able to work harmoniously with participants, volunteers, staff and public., • Often requires an immediate response to an email, text or phone message; will require day, night and weekend hours., • Employee must have ability and desire to function as part of a team, yet work with a high degree of autonomy.
