Job Description Goodwill of the Finger Lakes (GFL) seeks individuals who desire to help grow our mission. The Vice President of Donated Goods Retail (DGR) serves as a key member of the Goodwill of the Finger Lakes senior leadership team and is responsible for the strategic direction and operational performance of all donated goods retail enterprises (approximately $37M in annual revenue) across a twenty-county region of upstate New York. This role oversees retail stores, e-commerce, donation acquisition, reverse logistics partnerships, warehouses, and transportation, ensuring excellence in financial performance, customer experience, and mission impact. The Vice President executes an aggressive growth strategy to open 24 new stores over the next eight years, unlocking approximately $100M in additional revenue potential and creating more than 900 quality jobs across the territory. The Vice President of Donated Goods Retail reports directly to the President & CEO. Direct reports include the Director of Store Operations, Director of Store Growth, Program Director of Donation Acquisition, After Market Team Leader, and Warehouse Team Leader. Essential Job Functions • Provides vision, strategic leadership, and operational oversight for all donated goods retail operations., • Develops and executes short- and long-term strategic plans, budgets, and financial performance goals., • Communicates clearly and timely regarding progress, risks, and resource requirements across DGR operations. Establishes financial outcomes for the retail division and ensures alignment with organizational objectives and the strategic plan. o Oversees data collection, statistical recordkeeping, and production metrics for donated goods retail. o Assesses future donation and retail development by leading market studies to inform annual planning. o Prepares and delivers reports and presentations to the Board of Directors as requested by the President & CEO. • Ensures profitability through disciplined monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs), sales performance, budgets, and operational data. o Collaborates with Risk Management to address shrinkage, safety, and loss prevention. o Partners with People Resources on employee performance management, training and development, and annual performance reviews. • Creates an outstanding customer shopping experience through strong service standards, merchandising execution, and consistent store presentation (cleanliness, planograms, and visual standards)., • Builds and leads a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and organizational policies., • Develops, mentors, and coaches retail leaders to create a high-performing, equitable, and engaged workforce., • Partners with Mission Advancement to ensure effective promotion of retail locations and donation initiatives., • Safeguards the quality and integrity of donations through disciplined intake, processing, and merchandising practices., • Leads cross-functional initiatives and participates as a core member of the senior leadership team., • Represents GFL at community, business, and civic events to strengthen visibility and brand awareness. Additional Responsibilities • Collaborates with senior and executive leadership to advance annual strategic plan goals and organizational priorities., • Performs other duties as assigned by the President & CEO. Education and Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in business, retail management, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred., • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience managing multi-unit retail, service, or operations environments., • Proven track record of driving sales growth and profitability with full P&L accountability., • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and manage teams effectively. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Strong capability in strategy development, financial oversight, and execution of complex operational plans., • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-growth, and changing ? Computer-literate with working knowledge of logistics, operations systems, and project management tools. • Working knowledge of resale, donation-based operations, and community engagement preferred., • Experience in talent management, leadership development, and succession planning., • Strong conflict-management skills and sound judgment., • Ability to foster collaboration across all organizational levels and lead through influence., • High emotional intelligence and executive presence., • Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills with strong analytical ability., • Experience working with individuals of varying abilities., • Demonstrated commitment to GFL’s mission and values with a human-centered leadership approach., • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the retail territory.
