The Role We're hiring two Associate HRBPs — and we're posting them together on purpose. These two seats are conjoined by design: one focused on Total Rewards & Culture, the other on Performance & Organizational Design. They are different jobs with different muscles, but they share one mission and one rhythm. You'll be joined at the hip with your counterpart. Where one ends, the other begins. A Day in the Life You're diving head-first to solve the problem in front of you — a payroll discrepancy, a manager who needs coaching before a hard conversation, a comp band that no longer reflects the market — and an hour later you're skyrocketing up to the 30,000-foot view, asking what this tells us about how we're built and where we're headed. That oscillation between the weeds and the horizon is the job. Which Track For You? Track 1 — Associate HRBP, Total Rewards & Culture You own the systems and rituals that make people feel they’re paid competitively, supported holistically, and genuinely recognized. This track is for someone who finds satisfaction in payroll precision, benefits stewardship, and the harder-to-measure work of building a culture people don't want to leave. You'll: • Own end-to-end payroll partnership and accuracy — you're the person who catches the error before anyone else does., • Administer and continuously improve our benefits programs (health, dental, vision, 401(k)) — including open enrollment, vendor management, and employee education., • Build and run our reward and recognition programs — from spot bonuses to milestone moments to the small rituals that make people feel seen., • Partner with finance and leadership on compensation reviews, market benchmarking, and pay equity analysis., • Translate Hickory's values into programs, traditions, and moments people actually remember. You probably have: Comfort with numbers and systems. A curiosity about how compensation philosophy shapes behavior. A bias toward getting the details right. Track 2 — Associate HRBP, Performance & Organizational Design You own how performance is measured, how teams are structured, and how people grow — and you serve as the trusted partner managers turn to when employee relations issues arise. This track is for someone who thinks in org charts, performance signals, and career ladders, and who can also navigate a sensitive investigation with discretion and rigor. You'll: • Own and continuously refine our performance management cycle — goal-setting, check-ins, calibration, and reviews., • Partner with leaders on organizational design: spans of control, reporting structures, role clarity, and accountability., • Lead employee relations matters — intake, investigation, documentation, and resolution — with discretion, fairness, and a steady hand., • Drive compliance across employment law, policy, and required training (federal, state, and local) — and keep us audit-ready., • Build career frameworks and competency models that give people a clear line of sight to growth., • Coach and develop managers — especially first-time managers — through performance conversations, development plans, and the hard moments., • Lead workforce planning conversations: what roles do we need, where, and when? You probably have: Structured thinking. The ability to look at a messy org and see the architecture underneath. Comfort sitting in the discomfort of a hard performance or ER conversation, and the judgment to know when to escalate. Shared Across Both Tracks Regardless of which track you join, you'll: • Use data to tell the story. HR data lags business data — your job is to close that gap., • Travel within the tri-state area to be present with our teams, not just visible from HQ., • Operate as a true partner to your counterpart Associate HRBP. Qualifications Experience: 2 - 5 years in HR with meaningful exposure to either total rewards (comp, benefits, payroll) or performance management, employee relations, and org design. Generalists with deep curiosity in one of these domains are encouraged to apply. Grit & Determination: Experience matters, but how you handle the unknown matters more. What You’ll Own Employment Law Partner with the People function on the full lifecycle: hiring practices, employee relations matters, separations, accommodations, wage & hour compliance across the tri-state, and the policies that keep us audit-ready. You’re the steady hand managers turn to when the situation is ambiguous and the stakes are real. Contract Law Own the commercial contract function end-to-end — drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing our portfolio of vendor agreements, customer contracts, MSAs, NDAs, and partnership deals. Build the playbooks, templates, and intake systems that let the business move fast without losing rigor. M&A and Due Diligence Lead the legal workstream for acquisitions across the Hickory family of brands: due diligence management, target company assessments, deal structuring input, transaction documentation, and post-close integration. You’re the person who flags the issue in the data room before it becomes a post-close surprise — and the person who builds the diligence checklist we’ll reuse on the next deal, and the one after that. Process & Infrastructure This is a build job. You’ll create the legal operating system from the ground up: contract intake workflows, signature routing, document management, escalation criteria, outside counsel management, and the matter tracker that gives leadership visibility into legal risk in real time. If a process doesn’t exist yet, you build it. If it exists but doesn’t work, you redesign it. People-Oriented Partnership You aren’t the “no” person. Conduct regular visits during the week to the park to make sure safety standards are being met by the rest of the camp staff. Maintain appropriate staffing ratios (1:5) at all times and reassign staff as needed to close gaps.Conduct pre-trip safety checks (materials, headcounts, meds, waivers, consent forms, emergency contacts, buddy system).Monitor weather, route changes, and partner communication to make real-time safety decisions.Lead staff huddles before and after each off-site experience to reinforce expectations and reflect on improvements.Support in leading staff training on emergency response, first aid procedures, and appropriate camper management techniques.Respond to behavioral, medical, or environmental incidents calmly and effectively; communicate outcomes with families and leadership.Maintain a culture of psychological safety—ensuring every camper and staff member feels physically and emotionally secure.Logistics & OperationsOrganize and confirm the daily and weekly transportation plans (bus, subway, walking routes).Provide training to other camp staff on off-site travel procedures (buddy system, headcounts, Rule of 3, call and responses, staff placements, etc.).Review safety and supervision procedures prior to all on-site travel with the campers and staff through daily meetings and all-camp rallies.Work with Counselors to ensure that campers understand the safety procedures required for being at the park, swimming and locker rooms, field trips and large outings, etc.Maintain accurate and updated group rosters and consent forms for park travel, open swim and swim lessons, and field trips.Confirm pre-purchased tickets/reservations in advance; confirm headcounts with partners and purchase additional tickets as needed.Prepare trip packs (contact lists, meds, attendance sheets, emergency docs, incident report sheets).Coordinate swim groups by pulling accurate rosters, changing room transitions, and ratio coverage.Communicate off-site travel plans and relevant tasks proactively to the staff and Camp Director for a smooth rollout.
