The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is seeking exceptional, highly motivated Genomic AI Fellows to join a high-impact initiative transforming the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of human disease through predictive genomic AI. This program aims to bridge the gap between large-scale genomic data and transformative clinical impact. The fellowship will provide early-career scientists with the resources and environment to develop next-generation Foundation Models (FMs) for the human genome. While DNA sequencing is now a clinical staple, the noncoding "dark matter" of the genome remains largely undeciphered. AI will play a key role in unlocking the sequence-to-function code. As a Genomic AI Fellow, you will collaborate with data generators, computational experts, and geneticists. You will leverage NYGC's massive, proprietary datasets, including single-cell multiomics and large-scale genetic perturbation datasets, to build models that predict how genetic variation influences cellular behavior and, ultimately, human health. Genomic AI Fellows are encouraged to explore the frontier of genomic modeling, with access to high-resolution data and high-performance computing to address challenges such as: * Mapping the Regulatory Landscape: Moving beyond bulk-omics to predict cell-type-specific molecular phenotypes directly from DNA sequence. * Decoding Distal Regulation: Developing novel architectures that can accurately connect distant regulatory elements to transcriptomic output, capitalizing on genetic perturbations. * Predicting Clinical Trajectories: Utilizing whole-genome sequencing (WGS) from tens of thousands of cases-including Autism, Schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, and ALS-to predict disease risk and susceptibility via intermediate molecular effects. Interested in exploring the role of adipose tissues in mucosal inflammation in a supportive, creative, and inclusive environment? The Grasset lab Our lab’s long-term objective is to uncover novel mechanisms underlying the pathology of Crohn’s disease (CD), a progressive incurable disease characterized by transmural intestinal inflammation leading to complications often requiring bowel resection surgery. The goal is to identify novel therapeutic targets by focusing on two previously disconnected hallmarks of CD: expanded mesenteric adipose tissue wrapping around the intestine – or creeping fat – and anti-microbial antibodies, both correlating with disease complications. Studying these hallmarks will further reveal unexplored relationships between adipocytes, stromal cells, and immune cells driving B cell responses in gut homeostasis and inflammation. Understanding these relationships will impact how we perceive immune responses at other mucosal sites and systemically. Ongoing projects include: the study of the impact of CD-specific microbiota on stromal cell-supported lymphoid structures embedded in mesenteric adipose tissue; specific mechanisms by which stromal cells and adipocytes communicate with B cells; and the subsequent impact on B cell activation and their differentiation to anti-microbial antibody-producing plasma cells. Future projects will investigate how these relationships are established in early life and evolve over time. The Fine Lab The Fine lab is a Neuro-oncology research group that makes use of complex 3D human brain tumor models (GLICOs: ; ) to perform translational research into glioblastoma. We are a diverse, multinational and interdisciplinary team (MD/PhDs, cell/ molecular biologists, veterinarians & bioinformaticians) with a vibrant research and training environment in the Tri-Institutional Campus of New York City. We have secure funding and exceptional access to patient tissue/cell lines, as well as cutting edge scientific resources and training. The Role The successful candidate will be trained to work with embryonic stem cell-derived cerebral organoids interfaced with tumor stem cell biology, to facilitate High Throughput drug screenings. They will be a key personnel of the incipient Starr Foundation Cerebral Organoid Translational Core and will report to its supervisor. In achieving this goal, the candidate will have the opportunity to perform, and receive training in, a wide range of laboratory techniques including: reprogramming of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cell culture, the generation and culture of cerebral organoids and tumor organoids and the use and development of cell based assays to test novel therapeutic drug candidates, and cutting edge gene editing and molecular biology techniques. The Director of Molecular Diagnostics serves as the CLIA Laboratory Director for NYGC's clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory. This role provides clinical and scientific leadership for a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory performing next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based genetic and oncology testing. The Director is responsible for the clinical validity, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence of all laboratory testing activities. This includes oversight of assay development and validation, quality management systems, regulatory compliance, personnel competency, and clinical interpretation and reporting of molecular diagnostic tests. Assay Development and Validation * Lead the development, validation, and implementation of next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based diagnostic assays for constitutional genetics and oncology. * Review and approve validation protocols, validation summaries, and performance characteristics for all new and modified assays. * Ensure validation of both FDA-approved/cleared platforms and laboratory-developed tests (LDTs) in accordance with regulatory standards. Quality Management and Compliance * Oversee the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS) including QA/QC programs, instrument maintenance records, and performance monitoring. * Direct implementation and management of proficiency testing programs for genetic and oncology assays. * Ensure ongoing compliance to maintain: * New York State certification (Genetic Testing; Molecular Oncology - Tumor and Cellular Markers) * CAP accreditation * CLIA certification * Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives and participate in monthly quality assurance meetings. * Oversee applications and maintenance of state laboratory licenses for laboratories providing testing services across multiple U.S. states. * Participate in CLIA, CAP, and institutional working groups or committees as appropriate. The Lappalainen & Sanjana Labs at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) are looking for a motivated individual to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within a highly creative and dynamic research team of scientists, computational biologists, bioengineers, and human geneticists. The successful candidate will be jointly mentored by Drs. Tuuli Lappalainen and Neville Sanjana at the intersection of statistical genetics and functional genomics analyses and tech development and have the opportunity to also be affiliated with New York University. About the labs The Sanjana lab works at the intersection of genomics and bioengineering. We are curious about many things and are passionate about what we do. We primarily develop new technologies for hacking and understanding biological systems. We try to learn from nature and to re-purpose what we learn to gain deeper insights into how genomes and neural systems function. In the lab, we modify genomes, perform high-throughput screens, differentiate human neurons from stem cells, watch synapses rewire, find vulnerabilities in cancer cells and have a lot of fun in the process. We aim to have a tangible impact on improving human health by creating new biological tools and fundamental biological discovery. The Lappalainen lab studies functional genetic variation in the human populations by analyzing how genetic variants affect molecular and cellular traits, and how these cellular changes contribute to genetic risk for both common and rare diseases and traits. We analyze these questions both by computational analysis of large genomic, transcriptomic and multi-omic data sets, and by experimental approaches. About the position We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist eager to understand the impact of human genetic variation on gene expression and phenotypes at the cellular, tissue and physiological levels. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent but team-oriented Laboratory Inventory Associate to join our existing and growing inventory management team. This position will support the Senior Manager, Production Lab with inventory management services, as well as other general support outlined, but not limited to, the duties listed below. Key Responsibilities * Accountable for receiving and unpacking consumables, samples and reagents; * Accountable for maintaining an organized and clean stockroom and freezer rooms; * Accountable for ensuring laboratories are stocked and wash racks are refilled; * Establish and maintain good relations with all reagents vendors; * Responsible for placing orders for needed consumables and reagents in a timely manner; * Conduct Purchase Order follow-up while trouble-shooting and expediting, and act as the first point of contact; * Set up and monitor standing orders and shipments, make changes to schedules as needed; * Accountable for ensuring appropriate tracking of material levels and utilization, organizing inventory and monitoring product expiration; * Partner closely with the Lab Management team, to ensure proper stocking of laboratories; * Perform and provide lab management with weekly inventory reporting; * Partner with the Accounting team on monthly inventory reports; * Analyze inventory reports for trends that would affect reorder points and adjust as necessary; * Review inventory activity, and identify and address areas for improvement; * Barcode plastic ware and enter new products into inventory system; * Remove bio-hazardous and chemical waste from the laboratories; * Autoclave and glass washing; * Ship and receive collaborator samples; * Assist Lab with monthly & weekly equipment maintenance, including the fluorescence activated cell sorter; * Manage the fluorescence activated cell sorter as a shared resource and conduct troubleshooting as required; * Manage a real-time chemical inventory system, including a database of safety data sheets; * Preparation of common buffers and stock solutions, as well as agar plates; * Adhere to all EHS regulations. Research Responsibilities Laboratory-based research efforts will focus on the molecular biology of gene therapy for malignant and non-malignant diseases with the goal of include establishing a platform for tracking clonal expansion and monitoring transgene integration and expression in gene therapy trials, as well as participating in the development of novel strategies for the treatment of globin disorders.
