Job Description Position Summary The Saw Operator is responsible for safely setting up and operating industrial saw equipment to cut raw materials to specified lengths and dimensions in support of manufacturing and assembly operations. This role ensures materials are cut accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with engineering drawings, work orders, and HII quality and safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Set up, operate, and monitor industrial saws (band saws, cold saws, or similar equipment) to cut metal materials such as steel, stainless steel, and aluminum per job requirements., • Review work orders, job travelers, cut lists, and basic drawings to determine correct material type, dimensions, and quantities., • Measure and verify material dimensions using tape measures, calipers, and other measuring devices to ensure accuracy., • Load and unload raw materials and finished pieces using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or hoists as required., • Inspect cut materials for accuracy, quality, and surface condition; identify and report nonconforming material., • Label, identify, and stage cut materials to ensure traceability and proper flow to downstream operations., • Perform routine equipment checks and basic preventative maintenance, including blade changes, lubrication, and housekeeping., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with HII safety policies and OSHA regulations., • Follow all safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)., • Communicate production status, equipment issues, or material shortages to supervisors and team members., • High school diploma or GED required., • Minimum 1–3 years of experience operating industrial saws or related manufacturing equipment., • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic mathematical calculations., • Ability to read and follow work instructions, job travelers, and basic blueprints., • Understanding of shop safety practices and safe material-handling procedures., • Experience cutting metal materials in a manufacturing or fabrication environment., • Forklift and/or overhead crane experience or certification., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods., • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. independently; heavier items may require assistance or lifting devices. Salary Expectations: $19-$22/ HR.
