Job Description WTA is seeking an experienced diesel and auto parts room Storekeeper for our warehouse operation due to a retirement in the warehouse. COMPENSATION: 2025/26 Rates - Starting wage is $28.82/hour, with full pay range of the position being $28.82 – $36.03. Wage may be adjusted when new bargaining agreement is finalized. Full-time benefit package. All tools, uniforms and PPE provided. JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for purchases, records, and dispenses parts, equipment, and supplies to fleet maintenance and other WTA employees. Maintains automated inventory records and other documents related to inventory control. Performs periodic cycle-count inventories. May handle day-to-day operations of the battery shop, recycling and surplus programs, processing of repair parts warranties, and administrative processing of work orders. Requires effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments and the ability to resolve conflicts and deal effectively throughout the organization to achieve WTA goals. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Orders, receives, stocks, and issues parts and supplies. Quickly responds to technician requirements. Takes material orders from technicians, confirms requests, and orders from vendors. Requisitions materials up to the level of spending authority., 2. Accurately record s transactions and posts receipts of received items. Reviews and verifies quantities received against bills of lading, contracts, purchase requests, and shipping documents., 3. Researches and purchases unusual or hard-to-find goods and services. Collects and evaluates specific data/information on required specifications. Resources and evaluates best-value purchases (price vs. warranty vs. delivery)., 4. Maintains accurate, detailed, and complete computerized warehouse inventory catalog and records. Maintains and replenishes stock levels of supplies at transit stations. Updates daily repair parts postings on fleet management software. Updates parts status sheet., 5. Assists in processing maintenance shop work orders using fleet management software. Assigns appropriate work codes and prepares and maintains open work order files., 6. Initiates procurements, prepares requisitions, completes purchase order requests, obtains quotes, conducts online purchases, and reconciles online purchases per WTA policies., 7. Participates in physical inventory counts. Works with team members to resolve inventory discrepancies., 8. Unloads, unpacks, counts, visually inspects, and segregates supplies. Notes damage or discrepancies upon receipt of materials and takes appropriate corrective action. Reconciles received materials count against supporting documentation. Files and tracks freight damage claims., 9. Operates WTA vehicles and material handling equipment to move incoming supplies and materials. Picks up parts or supplies using a WTA vehicle., 10. Assists in maintaining the physical layout of the warehouse, including bin locations. Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Maintains warehouse security., 11. Assists in the preparation of warranty claim forms, the warranty recovery process, and the warranty program., 12. Assists in running the shop battery program., 13. Assists in running the recycling and surplus programs., 14. Assists in updating and maintaining GHS data for materials stored in the warehouse., 15. Updates parts books and reference library as required., 16. Prepares material and documentation for shipment and/or return of goods., 17. Purchase software licenses and maintain records for Fleet department., 18. Assign proper GL coding to all purchases before submitting for payment., 19. Purchases tools for Fleet Technicians and maintains individual toolbox inventory records., 20. Provides assistance to the Department Assistant for related duties, as required. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, each essential function must be performed satisfactorily. KNOWLEDGE: • Knowledge of auto and diesel parts, fleet and facility maintenance equipment, materials, supplies, and terminology., • Knowledge of basic automotive and diesel power-train specifications, brakes (air and hydraulic), suspension, air system controls, fuel management, exhaust and emission systems and standards., • Knowledge of basic industrial supplies including electrical supplies (AC and DC), hydraulic/air hose and fittings, fasteners, welding, body shop, HVAC, and plumbing., • Knowledge of basic inventory principles., • Knowledge of basic purchasing, applicable procurement regulations, and general business practices. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Analyze and interpret auto and diesel parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment catalogs, shop manuals, and other reference materials to effectively assist maintenance technicians., • Work effectively with co-workers at all levels of the organization, as well as people affiliated with other organizations., • Skill to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing., • Skill to utilize computer equipment to input work time, email, computerized fleet management systems, and carry out other computer-related tasks., • Skill to perform mathematical functions including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages., • Skill to analyze and evaluate inventory data., • Skill to work independently, quickly, and accurately. Ability to prioritize and multi-task in an environment with frequent disruptions and shifting priorities., • Skill to ensure that safe work practices are followed. Ability to identify and correct occupational hazards., • Skill to operate forklift, pallet jack, and other equipment used in a warehouse., • Skill to respond effectively in emergencies, hazardous, or other high-stress circumstances. WORKING CONDITIONS, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noises, fumes, and airborne particles., • Occasional exposure to high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration., • Occasional driving to pick up parts or supplies., • May be required to work overtime, weekends, or shifts., • Forklift, stacker, carts, dolly, and other equipment used to move parts & equipment., • Rolling ladders to access shelving., • Computer and software inventory programs and equipment (bar code reader, etc.)., • Telephone, copier, fax, and other general office equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Education: High school degree or equivalent, required., • Experience: At least three (3) years of experience in an automotive, industrial, bus, or truck parts department is required. Parts room experience in a maintenance environment, or in a position with similar duties as described in this job description preferred. A minimum of one (1) year experience with computerized inventory, equipment, and work order systems required. Other combinations of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired qualifications required to perform the job may be considered. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATES: • Valid Washington State driver's license at time of hire in order to operate WTA vehicles., • Must submit a five (5) year driving abstract at the time of the interview., • Must possess or obtain a valid permit to operate a forklift., • Must obtain First Aid and CPR certification within three (3) months of hire. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Physical ability to perform essential job functions including but not limited to sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, stooping or bending, pushing and pulling, climbing (up to 14 feet), balancing, crouching, reaching, grasping, carrying, and lifting (up to 75 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet).
