Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Environmental Health and Safety provides enterprise-wide leadership for Paragon Films’ environmental, health, and safety programs. Paragon Films has plants located in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Washington and Mexico. This position develops and executes EHS strategies, policies, and systems that promote a strong safety culture, reduce operational risk, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements across all company locations. The Director partners with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to oversee regulatory compliance and permitting, employee training, incident investigations, corrective actions, workers’ compensation matters, environmental reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Director also advises senior management regarding EHS risks, emerging regulatory requirements, and recommended risk-mitigation measures. RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Prepares, updates and implements annual compliance plans to ensure policies and procedures are followed as necessary to maintain compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, completing all regulatory reporting requirements (such as those related to OSHA and EPA)., • Prepares and submits state and federal environmental reports and permits for all locations, including stormwater permits, SPCC, TIER II, and air quality permits., • Oversees the management, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste, including required regulatory notifications, spill response and remediation, hazardous waste unit closures, and fugitive emissions monitoring., • Continuously reviews and improves Paragon’s safety program to ensure all employees are educated on all hazards related to their job and working environment, ensuring that proper procedures are established to provide safest possible working environments for all employees in all Paragon Films locations., • Leads initiatives to reduce workplace accidents and injuries and proactively identify and mitigate occupational hazards., • Promotes safety awareness by modeling safe practices and maintaining current knowledge of regulatory developments, industry trends, and emerging best practices., • Maintains and enhances a culture of safety excellence through continual promotion of workplace safety, the development, maintenance, and management of EH&S programs at each Paragon location, including proactive incident and illness prevention, employee programs, contractor safety policies, environmental waste policies and the education of these for all employees., • Manages all safety policies and programs, conduct training, and manage documentation., • Oversees new hire safety orientation program with plant leadership, as well as monthly safety meetings and safety program committees., • Manages incident investigations for all Paragon locations, identifying root causes of EHS incidents, developing, and working with plant leadership to implement corrective actions, traveling to site if necessary for investigations., • Oversees workers’ compensation claims and related injury management, including timely documentation, employee communication, coordination with administrators, carriers, and medical providers, and internal status reporting., • Compiles, analyzes, and interprets safety statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents that have occurred at each location, first aid incidents, near miss records., • Builds and fosters collaborative relationships with plant leadership, Human Resources, Engineering, employees, government representatives, vendors, suppliers, and contractors to advance EHS objectives. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY • Minimum of ten years of experience in an EH&S role within a manufacturing facility, • Demonstrated proficiency in performing EH&S assessments to identify workplace hazards and determining appropriate control measures, • Demonstrated extensive technical understanding of environmental EH&S principles, concepts, theories, regulations and practices, • Extensive Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state regulations and reporting requirements, • Strong organization and analytical skills as they apply to safety, production, and business, • Proven communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead, collaborate and build ownership and commitment, establishing direction, and drive for change, • Practice and promote teamwork within our organization, at all levels, • Advanced technical aptitude to understand machinery and systems within a production environment, • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement while adapting to fast paced environment and rapid changes, • Able to effectively manage multiple tasks and handle unexpected delays or events while maintaining constant attention to detail, • Ability to travel to all plant locations via airline travel as needed. Travel is 30% to 40% depending on company needs, • High level of dependability regarding attendance and punctuality, • Computer proficiency with experience in Microsoft Office Suite PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job • Ability to bend, stoop, twist at the waist, squat as is required of office environment, • Ability to sit, use hands and fingers to grasp, touch, hold, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, • Ability to safely and independently navigate a production floor, lab or warehouse facility through the use of sight and hearing, • Ability to perform basic manual dexterity tasks, typing, dialing, writing, stapling, etc. as required to utilize office equipment, • Ability to climb stairs, • Ability to regularly lift up to 5lbs, • Ability to occasionally lift up to 10lbs, • Ability to sit for duration of flights or long car rides as well as have the capability to travel via airway and/or vehicular travel, • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, • Ability to meet requirements of and utilize PPE when required EDUCATION • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent training/industry experience PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: • Bilingual English/Spanish, • Experience implementing a Safety Excellence Program, such as Milliken Safety Program or equivalent, • Experience in a plastics manufacturing environment, • Experience with EHS Insights, • Safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions but could be exposed to warmer temperature environments such as a warehouse or production floor. (Typical office/administrative work environment.) SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS: Requires adherence to deadlines and project completion deadlines with ability to travel 30% of the time.
