Job Description Job Title: Equipment Maintenance Technician (Forklift / Material Handling) Job Description This role focuses on maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of forklifts and material handling equipment across two facilities, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, document all work in a CMMS system, and help build a structured maintenance program that can scale to support all company equipment. As a senior-level technician, you will work closely with facility leadership, coordinate third-party vendors for major repairs, and have the opportunity to grow into managing equipment maintenance company-wide. Responsibilities • Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on electric and propane forklifts and other material handling equipment., • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems on a variety of equipment., • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections on turret trucks, sit-down forklifts, electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks, and occasional scissor lifts., • Execute routine maintenance tasks including inspections, lubrication, battery maintenance, tire checks, and fluid service., • Identify wear components before failure and proactively schedule repairs to prevent unplanned downtime., • Build, manage, and continuously improve a routine maintenance schedule for all material handling equipment across two facilities., • Accurately document all completed work, including parts used, time spent, and corrective actions, in the CMMS platform (MaintainX)., • Respond promptly to submitted work orders and ensure timely completion of maintenance and repair tasks., • Maintain accurate service records and documentation to support compliance and operational reporting., • Ensure compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards during all maintenance and repair activities., • Source and order necessary parts and manage inventory of critical components to support rapid repairs., • Collaborate closely with operations and facility leadership to minimize equipment downtime and support production needs., • Identify recurring failure trends and communicate findings and recommendations to Facility Managers., • Coordinate major repairs with outside vendors when necessary and cultivate reliable relationships with third-party service providers., • Read and interpret service manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and blueprints to support diagnostics and repair work., • Replace common wear parts such as wheels, contactors, switches, hoses, sensors, and other components as needed., • Perform minor mast, lift chain, steering, and related mechanical adjustments to ensure safe and smooth operation., • Contribute to building and guiding a maintenance team capable of handling routine maintenance and repairs., • Stay current with evolving forklift technologies, automation, robotics, PLC systems, and repair techniques., • Operate safely around heavy machinery and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a forklift or industrial equipment mechanic., • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience working on forklifts or material handling equipment., • Experience servicing multiple forklift brands such as Toyota, Crown, Hyster, Yale, CAT, Komatsu, and similar manufacturers., • Strong mechanical aptitude with expertise in hydraulic systems and internal combustion engines (LPG, gasoline, diesel)., • Experience with electric forklifts, including DC and AC motor systems and 24V / 36V / 48V electrical systems., • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems including controllers, sensors, wiring harnesses, and contactors., • Proficiency using multimeters and diagnostic software for troubleshooting and repair., • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and blueprints., • Familiarity with CMMS systems, with experience using MaintainX strongly preferred., • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems., • Working knowledge of battery-powered lift trucks and industrial battery maintenance., • Clean driving record and a current valid driver’s license., • Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work safely around heavy machinery., • Ability to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods and work comfortably in warehouse environments., • Highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage workload across two facilities., • Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail., • Proactive, preventative maintenance mindset with a strong focus on safety., • Effective communication skills for collaborating with facility teams and external vendors. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with turret trucks is strongly preferred., • Experience working on brands such as Hyster, Yale, and similar turret and forklift equipment., • Experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair., • Experience with industrial automation, robotics, and PLC programming or PLC troubleshooting., • Exposure to Fanuc systems, HVAC, welding, aerospace mechanical work, automotive repair, and diesel repair is beneficial., • Experience with industrial, heavy equipment operation and maintenance repair., • Comfort with diagnostics using blueprints, schematics, and other technical documentation., • OSHA forklift technician training or certification preferred., • Scissor lift and aerial lift certifications preferred., • Electrical troubleshooting certifications are a plus., • Experience as a forklift mechanic working specifically on brands such as Hyster and Toyota is advantageous., • Ability and willingness to drive a company van for work-related tasks., • Ability to train on a day shift for approximately three months and then potentially transition to a full-time second shift role. Work Environment The role is based within the Maintenance and Engineering department, with a home base in a central maintenance area and daily work performed across multiple production buildings. Technicians typically work in teams of two and are provided with a dedicated tool kit and a company van for work-related travel between facilities. The environment consists of three active production buildings, with a fourth building coming online shortly that will house additional production lines. Work is performed in warehouse and production settings around heavy machinery, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. You will start on a day shift for training, typically for about three months, with the potential to move to a second shift full time thereafter. The role requires frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50+ pounds while working in and around operational equipment. The setting is fast-paced and safety-focused, with an emphasis on teamwork, clear communication, and adherence to established maintenance and safety procedures.
