We are seeking an energetic, organized, and people-focused General Manager to lead the daily operations. This is an exciting opportunity to build a team, create an outstanding customer experience, and help grow a premium dog daycare, boarding, grooming, and retail business from the ground up. We’re looking for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys developing employees, loves working with both people and dogs, and takes pride in running a clean, efficient, and profitable operation. This is not a desk job. While the General Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business, they are also expected to maintain a visible, hands-on presence in the facility and work closely with dogs, customers, and staff on a daily basis. Must be comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels in a fast-paced group play environment. About The Dog Stop Kansas City We are a new, locally-owned franchise. As General Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in launching and growing the business, building a high-performing team, and ensuring every dog receives the exceptional care The Dog Stop is known for. General Accountabilities - What You’ll Do Operations Management • Oversee all day-to-day facility operations, including daycare, boarding, grooming support, retail, and customer service., • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for dogs, customers, and staff., • Coordinate building maintenance, vendor relationships, and facility needs., • Monitor compliance with company standards, operating procedures, and safety protocols., • Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout the facility and be willing to step into any role when needed to support the team and ensure exceptional care for dogs and customers. Team Leadership • Recruit, hire, train, coach, and develop team members., • Create and manage employee schedules., • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback., • Foster a positive, team-oriented culture focused on accountability and exceptional care., • Address employee concerns and resolve workplace conflicts professionally., • Hold team members accountable to performance, attendance, safety, and customer service standards. Customer Experience • Deliver exceptional service to pet parents and build long-term client relationships., • Conduct facility tours and educate customers about services., • Handle customer concerns and resolve issues promptly and professionally., • Ensure every customer interaction reflects The Dog Stop’s commitment to outstanding care. Financial & Business Management • Manage labor, inventory, and operating expenses in accordance with budget goals., • Oversee ordering and inventory management for retail products and operational supplies., • Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities for growth., • Work closely with ownership to achieve revenue and profitability targets., • Drive enrollment, daycare participation, boarding occupancy, grooming utilization, and overall store revenue growth., • Monitor key business metrics and develop action plans to achieve operational and financial goals. Dog Care & Safety • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every dog in our care each day., • Lead by example and maintain a hands-on presence in dog daycare, boarding, and facility operations as needed., • Oversee and verify the accurate administration of medications, feeding schedules, special diets, and individualized care instructions., • Ensure all dog care records, feeding logs, medication logs, incident reports, and customer communications are completed accurately and on time., • Monitor dog behavior and work with the team to identify changes in demeanor, illness, injury, or potential safety concerns., • Ensure boarding rooms, kennels, bedding, bowls, and dog care areas are cleaned and sanitized according to company standards., • Train, coach, and hold staff accountable for safe dog handling practices and adherence to company dog care protocols., • Respond to dog and employee incidents, administer basic first aid when appropriate, and determine when veterinary care is necessary., • Communicate proactively with pet parents regarding behavioral concerns, incidents, injuries, medication administration, and special care needs., • Ensure all dogs receive the level of care, attention, enrichment, and supervision expected from The Dog Stop., • Support the team in creating a fun, enriching experience for every dog. Job Qualifications - What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications • 5+ years of leadership or management experience with responsibility for employee supervision, scheduling, hiring, performance management, and customer service., • Excellent customer service abilities., • Proven experience leading teams and creating a positive, accountable workplace culture., • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment., • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills., • Ability to work a schedule that includes weekends, holidays, and early mornings or evenings., • Passion for dogs and animal welfare. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in pet care, veterinary, boarding, daycare, hospitality, retail, fitness, childcare, or other customer-service-driven industries., • Experience managing budgets, payroll, inventory, and operational performance., • Experience opening, growing, or scaling a business location. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods., • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds., • Comfortable working around dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments., • Ability to work in a physically active environment.
