Job Description Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist – Syracuse, NY LocationSyracuse VA Medical Center800 Irving Avenue Syracuse, New York 13210 • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Required, • Clearance Requirements: National Agency Check with Fingerprints (Tier 1 Background, • Investigation - Standard Form 85)., • Type of Employment: 40 hours per week., • Period of Performance: Base Year, plus four (4) Option Years., • Total Compensation: $180.00 per hour., • Type of Employment: Independent Contractor (1099) Summary of Services The nine (9) Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) will support a variety of surgical specialties and procedural areas, including the operating room, endoscopy, interventional radiology, pain management, and other locations where anesthesia services are required. The CRNA participates in multidisciplinary patient care, quality improvement initiatives, performance improvement activities, infection prevention efforts, and ongoing professional education to promote exceptional clinical outcomes and enhance the Veteran patient experience. Working Hours The nine (9) Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists' schedule will be such that six (6) CRNAs will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with the remaining three (3) CRNAs working weekends and holidays. Evening and nighttime on-call services/call-backs will be provided to ensure 24x7 coverage for the Syracuse VA Medical Center outside regular business hours. • CRNA Onsite - 8:00 AM to 4:40 PM - Weekdays, • CRNA On-Call Weekdays/Evenings - 4:00 PM to 8:00 AM Rotating, Federal Holidays, • CRNA On-Call Weekdays Friday 4:00 PM to Monday 8:00 AM Rotating, Federal Holidays Mandatory Qualifications • Hold a Master's Degree in Nursing., • Hold national certification through the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA)., • Hold a current certification or licensure, as appropriate, in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia., • Certified by the National Board of Certification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCNA)., • Currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)., • Currently certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency., • Skill in conducting and managing anesthesia for a broad range of complex surgical procedures., • CRNA's must be able to adapt/modify anesthesia techniques to optimize patient care., • Ability to complete work assignments selected to add depth and breadth to their technical knowledge and skill competence., • Work assignments will vary depending on the progressive acuity required for anesthesia care., • Ability to respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques in order to perform necessary resuscitation procedures., • Ability to effectively blend technology, skills, and competency for the advancement of anesthesia techniques, pharmacology, and equipment., • Ability to apply new developments and theories to develop and demonstrate the ability to recognize and solve various complex anesthesia situations., • Ability to practice nurse anesthesia with colleagues and peers in a team concept of anesthesia care and blend management skills with technical experience., • Ability to recognize clinical and technical aspects of anesthesia care and has in-depth knowledge of anesthesia methods and techniques for the practice of anesthesia., • Ability to participate in patient care audit processes. Duties and Responsibilities • Performing a comprehensive history and physical., • Conducting a pre-anesthesia evaluation., • Obtaining informed consent for anesthesia., • Developing and initiating a patient-specific plan of care., • Selecting, ordering, and administering drugs and controlled substances., • Selecting and inserting invasive and noninvasive monitoring modalities., • Providing acute, chronic, and interventional pain management services, as well as critical care and resuscitation services, • Order and evaluate diagnostic tests; request consultations; and perform point-of-care testing., • Plan and initiate anesthetic techniques, including general, regional, local, and sedation., • Anesthetic techniques may include ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and other technologies for diagnosis and care delivery., • Improve patient safety and comfort., • Respond to emergency situations using airway management and other techniques, • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia, • Provide post-anesthesia care, including medication management., • Conduct a post-anesthesia evaluation and discharge from the post-anesthesia care area or facility.
