American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN CVICU for a travel nursing job in Austin, Texas. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: CVICU, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Days, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 20, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • 14-bed CVICU unit within a dedicated heart hospital, • Day shift schedule, 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, • 13-week contract, • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity, • High-acuity cardiovascular patient population averaging 13–15 open heart surgeries per week, • Common procedures include CABG/valve open heart surgeries, ECMO cannulation, IABP, Impella management, and dialysis, • Equipment used includes CRRT, Tablo, IABP, Impella, LVAD, ECMO (VA and VV), RVAD/Centrimag, • EMR: Meditech, • Rotating weekend requirement (4 days per 4-week schedule period), • No on-call responsibilitiesRequirements, • Active RN license in TX or a compact state currently in hand, • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start), • NIH Stroke Scale certification required, • Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU or cardiac ICU experience required, • Previous cardiac experience is required; candidates without it will not be considered, • Device experience required; preferred in the following order: ECMO, RVAD/LVAD, Impella, IABP, CRRT/Dialysis, • Open heart recovery experience preferred, • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration, • One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references), • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 monthsAdditional Information, • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates will be considered, • Responsibilities include managing high-acuity post-cardiac surgery patients and operating advanced cardiac support devices, • Unit staffs 5–9 RNs plus a charge nurse per shift, with a total of 48 direct reports, • Candidates must be self-directed and comfortable with independent problem-solving in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment, • Team culture emphasizes strong teamwork, peer accountability, and compassionate care With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
